Did anyone go to that auction in Ohio that had the two Bugatti engines and lifetime collection of cars & parts? Sure would be nice to know how it went and see some photos.
This was on Monday August 29, I thought someone here might have gone. Was there any report in the local papers after it was over?
I went to the auction. Most of the cars were in very poor condition. The Duesenberg stuff went for big money. A bare cowl went for $16,000 , One bare frame went for $27,500 while the other went for $37,500. A skid with most of the drive line (no eng/trans) parts went for $47,000, Engine for $37,500 and a block for $30,000. The Bugatti engines went for $30,000 +/- each. The Bugatti radiator and shell went for $7500. Most of the Rolls Royce ( alum. bodys )went pretty reasonable and went from $1,300 to $11,000 most that went for the bigger $$ were stored inside. The Caddy looking car was a '58 Kleve, originally had twin Caddy engines!, but was in VERY sad shape, Not much left other than a BADLY rusted shell and one engine, it went for $250. The Jag looking car was also a Kleve , it was rusted in half and went for $100. The Imperial, Dual cowl went for $72,500 The house boat had Dual 460 Fords and went for $75.00. The best buy IMHO was the 38 Lasalle Coupe, It was in pretty good shape, no grill, engine... it went for $800.00!!! I wish it didn't go so early in the Auction, or it would have been sitting in my garage. There was tons of sheet metal that went very cheap, like 10 bux for a pair of fenders, and the same for doors, some got 8 doors for 10 bux! The only problem is that they were for early 30's Caddys/Lincolns, a bunch of the Lincoln doors had the cast alum uppers! I bid on alot of stuff but only came home with some pieces of sheet metal, I got out bid on a RR cowl that I thought would make a Super Kewl woody hotrod ( I should have kept bidding ), and wanted the Kleve Caddy, but that thing was HUGE! and not much left of it, too bad it was not kept inside. Alot of the cars are heading down under. I am not going to post pics, because most were posted on the Kruse website, and dont want to take up Ryan's bandwith, showing a field of doors and fenders, and basically, it kills me to say this, but ...junk. I met Karl's Daughter, Kristi, she was very nice and it was hard for her to let go of the treasures her father had collected. Here are a couple of storys about the man and his cars, some funny and interesting storys. http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050120/NEWS01/501200350/1056/news01 http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2003/12/29/loc_loc4b.html] Steve
