Not sure if you have this term in the US but in the UK to "bare your a$$" is it to own up and face the music when you dont know something. So I come to you knowledgable chaps, cap in hand to ask something. What are these bolt things in these pictures, what are they for and how do they work? Some of you might even know what TV show I've capturd the pictures from but I'm fully aware that TV shows is strictly taboo. The reason I ask is that I will need to rebuild the floor in my 1930 Chrysler Coupe and am interested in finding out how to do it. As a side question, are floor panel pieces available to buy or is it the done thing just to produce your own? Thanks for any help!
Clecos, they temporarily hod sheet metal together. Aircraft stuff the racers started using decades ago
Cleco's http://www.google.com/imgres?q=clec...164&start=0&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:13,s:0,i:124 With a link to where you can buy them in your neck of the woods...
Cleco's are temporary fasteners which go into rivet holes and hold the pieces together. They work with a pair of special pliers for installation and removal. Very handy items...
Here in Texas, bare your *** means watching your dumb friend take up a hot girl on a bet to run through the park naked. I'll never get that image out of my mind.
BTW, they work a lot better in sideways location ( making sure that multiple holes line up after taking it apart to deburr and re-***embly), than in the way they are used in those pics. To clamp sheetmetal prior to welding, I use hex head selftappers. They have way more clamping force. And with a silghtly oversize hole on the top sheet you have some wiggle room to smooth things out.
Around the Southern States it means"Drop your drawers"..I guess it would be knickers to you Brits! We just tend to say "I FRIGGED UP",,,HRP
Technically, its the ladies who wear the knickers, gents wear drawers, pants, boxers or briefs... some wear thongs too i guess... Also like the champagne! That Lazze guy is brilliant, i've just invested 10 minutes watching the chap work and will sit watching more tonight!
Clecos rate right up there with vice grips and C clamps as being about the handiest tools a fabricator can have. I can't imagine working on building something without them. They come in a couple of different sizes, at least two I know of and use.....1/8 and 3/16 and you drill that size hole to insert them into before you release the pliers. Don
Through the 20s and 30s Harry Reser(first cousin to the Wright brothers) was the director of NBC's Clicquot Club Eskimo Orchestra.Harry was considered the best banjoist of his day.
If you look up WWII aircraft factory pictures you will see planes being ***embled that look like porcupines from hundreds, maybe thousands of clecos holding panels on till Rosie the Riveter catches up.
we hold our entire body, deck and doors and all on with them when we are freshening our modified for the next season, they work great.
