  1. My old man taught me one important lesson, " Never assume anything ". You did, and now, it is what it is. Lesson learned, move on.

I think I would have a friend that is in law enforcement run the vin/serial numbers and be sure the truck isn't stolen, pronto! I would have done that as soon as I found out there was no title.

As far as buying a truck without a title, shame on you for not asking, shame on him for not telling. That is all water under the bridge.

    I see 3 options.
    1) Keep whining and complaining and piss off the guy to the point he won't help at all.

    2) Get the states involved and probably be out the truck and the cash. Its no skin off their butts to impound the whole mess and not have to deal with it. You get to pay storage fees while you try to get someone to help.

    3) Do what ever needs to be done to get it titled.

I know which choice I would make. Lock this thread, and get down to business. Gene

I was in the market for an off subject vehicle this past summer and was amazed at the number of vehicles I called about that had no titles but they could "get me one" for an added fee....shady as f*ck if you ask me.

  4. tons of cars are sold here every day on just a bill of sale and a affidavid of lost or missing title just have to have a signed doc. from the seller with the bill of sale and away you go .... done deal , call your DMV and see if you can do the deal with a bill of sale , get name of person delt with and dont give any more info than you have too, , 50 years and 5000+ cars you should have all the loops tied up into tight little knots ........ good luck ,

About 4 years ago a friend of mine bought a hotrod 29 Model A pickup from out of state. It came with a title, but no numbers. It was a TCI chassis and the original frame was long gone, but it had an original title. He had quite a time with the local sherriffs office when he took it in for inspection. Thankfully he knows the local deputy that normally handles inspections and all was eventually resolved. Chances are there is an original car in another state with the same VIN. Rod

I'd run a check on the VIN # if you can locate one either on the body or the late model chassis. God forbid if you bought a HOT one. Some how check on missing stolen vehicles. What was the history on the truck? Did the seller build it, why was he selling, any bill of sales available for chassis or original truck available??? FNG is right. Not even a intro. thread and nothing much on personal info. Like mentioned previous post, just took advantage of the Hamb to sell and hooked a fish. Glad to see you at least got the truck. Again as mentioned, get back with him and negotiate. If he stands his ground on the $250 so be it. Give him a deposit towards the title. When he can produce it, have him send you a copy of it first and final the deal. Others have gone this route with a copy for personal satisfaction insurance. At least if you had to go further you would have something in hand that he was trying to hose you.

Exactly. Skip, Moseley said to say hi. :D

  8. I dont know about wrong? but you obviously have more money than brains. You paid 8 grand for a vehicle and didnt look at it in person and check out the vin for liens or stolen ect. Or at least have a third party check it out for you. You learned something the hard way. Now take that body & vin off that chassis. that way if its stolen or has a big lien you dont lose the whole shebang. sometimes the IRS or state sales tax folks put liens on vehicles. A divorce, Bankruptcy probate, DHS or other court judgment could have a lien on it. When you spend that much you should pay to get it checked out just like you would a real estate transaction. I was living in Missouri. Bought a '49 truck from Kansas. Got a bill of sale. Kansas is one of those states that doesn't require a title for vehicles before a certain year. I believe pre 1950. Just had to take my truck to get a VIN inspection (local inspection station). Then DMV gave me a title. I checked the DMV websites for Kansas & Missouri to see what I had to do. No problem.
Check your state laws. Bill of sale might be enough.

Since there was no title what makes anybody think there is a VIN? In Arizona it can be big trouble if they can't find any numbers, and a bill of sale is meaningless unless it's notarized.

Not only should you have asked if there is a title, but the next thing to ask is if this title he is getting you going is to match some kind of numbers on the truck. If it doesn't you are really buying nothing but paper with no proof relative to your purchase.

So the guy took two trucks and made one.....and he can not provide the title for either, OR the truck as it sits. There are all sorts of red flags..... Maybe the truck is legit, but he should also take some responsibility and split the title fee. Was it even registered in his name?

It sucks when people join this forum (or others) just to make a buck off its members, but contribute NOTHING else. Guy sounds like a dick.

    Shit, alliance only.

Would cut out alot of the bull shit artist, no alliance, no sell.

Maybe you shouldnt even be able to look at the classifieds unless your an alliance member,

Make it a privilege. That would cut out all the jack ass scammers.

Alliance only classifieds, just killed two birds with one stone... A 50 dollar stone.

Guys, Thanks for your comments. To clear up a few things; The man is not a fly by night, he is a member in good standing in his community. There is a VIN, I have a bill of sale,it is not stolen, there is a temporary tag with the VIN on it. He is not trying to dodge me.I have a copy of his ID. I know there are ways to get a title. and will do so. It is not about the money. This situation is not the end of the world. This not a forum to bash someone. I guess I am just a little surprised what I have through to get something that I thought was mine. I had thought that I had done my due diligence, but was a little too trusting. I actually heard about the truck from somebody else, and just used the HAMB for the pictures. I didn't use this forum as a reference to his good character. I have learned some from this, and don't know if I like what I have learned about people in general.

And you shouldn't like it. People have gotten fuckin stupid. That's the bottom line. It's a pandemic that rivals the black plague. It seems that the majority of the populace gave up on integrity, accountibility, problem solving, and straight up honesty. Fuck em. They miss the empowerment that follows when you stand up for what you've done, right or wrong. They miss the benefits of making something intagible that brings with it friendships and respect that become permanent. Car deals are so easy to do right that I never understood the desire to muller up the process or add some shady bullshit to it. What is it, fun? Is it like a burning bag of dogshit on a porch? If you've been at as long as you say, you get it. For what you paid I'd expect a title, I'd have offered a minimum of $500 less without but I know that's armchair quarterbacking. You'll get it right I'm sure, and now just consider the rest as the knuckdraggin crybaby bastards who can't stand up for their actions or words. Well, at least until you learn otherwise. If this offends anyone here, you're probably one of them.

  20. Actually bucks down is bucks down. I was just at the pharmacy the other day and there was a little old lady there that couldn't pay for her meds. She had a car I know because there is no bus service here. I also know that insurance is required in this state, so I know she can afford a couple of hundred a year for insurance. None of that made her have enough money to buy her meds, probably it had a lot to do with the fact that she could not afford her meds.

I am not saying that to be mean to you, it is just a poor arguement.

Actually a 50 dollar investment to beat you out of 8K wouldn't be that big a deal either. (not you personally but you any mark in general).

Being an alliance member is not a sign that anyone is a stand up person. It is just a sign that they had 50 dollars to drop for "instant credibilty" as one low rent HAMBer put it last year.

None of this has anything to do with the original question. A fella got beat out of 8K and wants to know what he should do. 8K that is a pretty expensive life lesson from where I sit.
