Anyone recently get their's redone? What am I looking at for a vinyl or faux leather job. Understand that the covering is by square foot. Just wondering how labor intensive.

    Is it around 2K? 5K? 8k?....

    Thanks!!!!

  2. I have no clue where NOVA is but prices vary depending on your local,,,if your cars running I suggest you pay a visit to a few local trim shops for a estimate. HRP

Just another example of how things are now days, a guy would never want to ask a shop. Get on the ol HAMB and get all sort of prices and still not know what the local shop will charge.

A lot of things figure into an interior. Start by looking at cars and asking who did thier interior. Look for things like how straight the seams are, are they fitted at the right places. IE are the seams on the top of the seats at the same place on both seats. When you find a shops work you like ask them for pricing. Also ask them what you can do to make it cheaper. If your car was chopped, were there allowances made to mount the headliner. Lots of time things have to be done to do that, you can do that or the shop can do that. $50+ an hour can add up quick doing that litte stuff. The sky is the limit.

  5. If you're on a budget look into EZ Boy.

  6. As mentioned lots of variables. Material, design, how much needs to be done. Best to ask a local trimmer.

OldOlds made a great suggestion in post #4. When you are out at rod trots, cruise nights or at shows and see an interior done in the general style you want yours and you like what you see ask who did it. I found out that my local guy in the town I live in can turn out some great looking work even though his main work isn't in customs or rods.

As others said prices can be all over the place. I've never figured out how to guess what they will charge yet. I doubt now that a guy could get the stock seat cushions done for my truck for the last quote I had for a complete interior. Ya have to ask and have a real solid idea of what you want including the material you want.

Shopping by price only can be hazardous to your mental well being. A guy locally thought he'd save money, he had the money just didn't want to spend it. He found a guy who would do it cheap, he'd upholstered furniture for years. Well my friend took it back probably 5 times. One problem was the rolls from the seat back not lining up with the ones on the cushion by as much as 3/4 of a roll. When he gave up taking it back the vinyl/leather had so many holes in it that he had to buy some more material and his wife redid it themselves. If that had been me, by the time it was over I'd have been ready to for the nut house. I spent a few thousand back in 96/97 for my cpe interior but I got a first class job that still looks good

Look at Lebaron Bonney and EZ-Boy for some idea of finished product cost without labor.

An example, my buddy had a big name shop do the interior on a '34 Ford Coupe. It was $7K. I bought a kit to do my '65 Biscayne but they sent the wrong color. My upholstery guy said he could make it up himself so I asked what it would cost. He asked me how much I paid for the kit. I told him $650. He said he'd do it for the same price including headliner and installing a carpet kit I bought. He does custom furniture, turns out he did Ed Roth's cars and got into the custom furniture business. You never know who'll you run into.

I currently own a 51 Vicky and have owned several 50 Fords. I just finished having a local shop redo my 73 Camaro interior, which is fairly close in scale and scope to the Shoebox. You should be able to have a decent job in vinyl with simple 1/1/2" to 2" pleats on the seats done for about $2500.00 including simple door panels and headliner, as long as your seat springs and hardware are in fairly good condition. I spent $3000.00 on the Camaro interior, but replaced some dash pieces that ran around $500 at the same time. It really depends on your local market and the quality of the shops in your area. $3000 should get you a fairly nice basic upholstery. A lot of the Shoebox upholstery/interior components are available from suppliers such as LeBaron Bonney https://www.lebaronbonney.com/cart/seat_upholstery.php or Mac's Auto http://macsautoparts.com/campaign_product.asp?camid=f50&pn=LH0IESGM1000055&qo=true

    Hopefully, this helps a bit.

I`m sure if you look around, you will get quotes for all the above. Quality will vary though. I don`t see how a 73 Camaro is like a 51 Vicky. It's like comparing a flathead to a small block Chevy.

  14. I'm on a tight budget on my shoe. Cost of a interior can cost as much as i have in the whole car. So i found a set of buckets with the right color and tuck n roll which was not my first choice and a bolt of material in a local buy n sell. Door panels, package tray, i did myself. so far, 450.00. Store bought headliner 160? floor insulation 150. carpet 100.00? Anyway i'm hoping to do all for a g note or so. No way can i farm this out. I'm not finished yet but you get the idea.
