When using a split wishbone with tie rod ends (model a) how do you guys break the taper to adjust the front end without damaging the finish(paint, powder coat, etc.) I plan on having my frame powdercoated when finished with everything.

and does anyone sell wheel well patch panels that include the inner wheel well lip? mine have been butchered by a previous owner.

    Same thing I was thinking.

Are you planning on welding in a bung?,,if so you can use a nut on the tie rod to adjust it. HRP

how do you remove the tie rod end from the frame mount? if its like modern tie rod ends and ball joints when they are seated in the steering knuckle you have to hit the knuckle with a hammer to "break the taper" or use a pickle fork which usually destroys the grease boot.

No matter what tool you use it will be tough not to damage the finish. You will have to be very very careful.

Painted bones, do your adjustments, tape off the ends and paint. If powder coated, when you get them back you don't have to fully seat the tie rod ends into the taper to get everything adjusted. Once adjusted, tighten the nuts down and seat the taper.

I have a tie rod removal tool that is great! I've used on muscle Mopars, hot rods, even my 1956 Chevy! :D

Well worth the $10-$12 I paid for it at O'Reillys! ;)

What Alinement setting are you going to adjust with the wishbones after you get the axle square?
