Maybe O/T, but does anybody ever feel like they are the only ones into old school rods?

I was hangin out with my buddies tonight, and everybody seems to be all about GSXR's, ricers, and mustangs and such....

Everytime I bring up old school hot rods, a lot of people's eyes glaze over.

I love hot rods because of my family tradition ( my fathers 56 bel air and my grandpa's 31 chevy) as well as the amazing styling of years gone by

Does anyone else have the same experience with not having friends to relate to your desire to preserve true American hot rodding?

I don't have any traditional hot rodding friends in Amarillo. I do have a couple that are into traditional customs and such, but not any that are into hot rods that I can think of. That's why I'm always talking to friends from Dallas or Austin, because they get what I'm doing.

    So.. I guess you're overdue for a long-distance bromance.

I like old cars myself but your buddies are doing the exact same thing your Father and Grandfather did, hot rod cars. It's just a different time, a different era. Your buddies are for todays style, your Father and Grandfather for the style of their time but the concept remains the same. Fixing up a car for looks and for speed.

Case in point- On my wedding night I pulled up to a resort in my model a, right up front. They have never really seen something like that before. So little and low and pissed off sounding. Everyone was gawking, pissed off the dude in the 400,000 Carrera GT in front of me when they stuck his car in the lot and let keep mine right there under the awning all night. Next day they were excited because it drew people to it all night and morning.

My point is when you're in your hot rod, you are mister king ****ing cobra. All the puny minions will bow the **** down. And once you're taking your friends around in one, you'll infect them too.

Maybe I was taking it too far with the minions part...

But whatever if anybody claims they don't feel ****ing awesome while driving their hot rod then they're not doing it right!

It's even harder to get a club interested at times. Let alone find friends into old rides

Both of my best friends are hard core car guys. One leans more towards what you would call Bombs with horsepower. His latest ride is a late 40's Pontiac sedan with a G body subframe and Lt something engine along with air bags and etched windows. The other one is all about horsepower and big tires. Neither can quite understand why I want wide whites, a six cylinder and no air bags but they don't knock my build and both will probably have a hand in it at some time or another.

Maybe it's just because you call it an "old school" ride MrFalcon62 the "Old School" thing means rat rod to many people rather than meaning traditional rod or custom. I don't really care if my buddies aren't into traditional cars. I don't drag either of them to Billetproof or the East West flathead run either and doubt that either would have a lot of fun at those events.

  13. all the time, theres not a lot that get the traditional hot rod thing.most think a impala with curb feelers are cool or some dumb ****.met a few guys that are into the traditional hot rods and now i hang around them the most.

My buddy and I were wearing our club jackets the other night when we went out for a beer. A young kid (probably 25) came up to me and asked what The Outsiders was. I said "It's a car club". His response was "Do you build rat rods?!" I politely said, "No, traditional hot rods". His eyes glazed over and he walked away, disinterested because we had nothing to do with rat rods. That's what kids are interested in these days, shock value, not cool hot rods....

See there's the problem, as soon as you mentioned the phrase "old school" all your friends knew you were gay and now they don't want to hang out with you cuz they're afraid they will wake up on the couch with a banana up their azz and Brokeback Mountain playing on the TV.

When I was in the 9th grade, I gave a speach on customs and talked about Frank De Rosa , Gene Winfield and George Barris. I think I got an A because nobody knew what the heck I was talking about. They did ask alot of questions thou.
