I have been perusing the pictures of the various Model A's on this site. I'm in the midst of a tudor sedan build. I'll post some pictures at some point. The car will have BBC engine and no hood. I'm liking the look of g***er style headers in favor of the lakester style. Seeing as how the frame is pretty much in line the exhaust port am I correct in ***uming that just about any g***er header would fit?
When you say "G***er style headers " what comes to mind with me are fenderwell exit headers that go straight out and then dump (almost) straight down. If those are what you are talking about I personally am not a fan. I know Bob Bleed's car has them and on that one they look cool, but I think that is mainly because they have been on there for so long and have a history to the car. Just a personal thing, but to me they just don't fit the overall look. Don These are the ones I am referring to:
The headers that dump straight down might look cool sitting there, but I can guarantee you won't have any friends if you crank them up in the dirt (yep, we had/have dirt pits). Voice of experience.
Yes, I meant fenderwell headers. Thanks captmullette, that was the information I was trying to obtain.
I love the look of fenderwell headers,I plan on s-10 or Chevy 2 headers( they are shorter leaving more space for a baffle ) on my '37 fenderless pu,DUCKMAN
Fenders? you might have to cut. Here is my Chevy. As Larry T said, you will have no friends in the dirt & be prepared for heavy duty cleaning.
Did chevy II's on my last tudor and welded up some similar to deans on my current coupe....they are more of a dragster header than a g***er
If they flow in with the looks and total theme of the rest of the car you are good to go but if they dominate the car to the point you don't notice the car behind the headers you have a problem. If you study the vast majority of the great rods of the past 70 years they have one thing in common. No one part of the car overpowers the car and everything fits in to make a complete package. The car that Don showed is a prime example of one component overpowering the rest of the car. The owner chose to do that to showcase his incredible talent and so be it. You are supposed to think 'wow what workmanship in those headers, who built them?" and not how the little roadster doesn't really flow front to back like it could with something simpler.
Like stated before...constant cleaning and dirt everywhere...but they double as a leaf blower..... As far as the fenderwell headers go I agree they destroy the lines of the car, but everyone has their own taste... I couldn't find anything I liked for my A so I built the ones that are on it
