A old school hamber and myself had a conversation this weekend regarding 1/4 and 1/8 dragstrips and there locations and Its sad that they are next to extinct. Here in Southern California, we have Barrona 1/8, Pomona 1/4, Irwindale 1/8, and Fontana 1/4. What do you have in your town? Which state has the most open operating drag strips?

2. Believe it or not, Washington State has 7 drag strips.
#1 Walla Walla 1/8 mile
#2 Renegade Drag Strip- Yakima 1/4 mile
#3 Shelton 1/4 mile not sure if it's open yet (brand new)
#4 Pacific Raceways - Kent site of the Northwest Nationals
#5 Bremerton Drag Strip
#6 Spokane Raceway Park
#7 Evergreen Speedway 1/8 mile
circle tracks
#1 Evergreen Speedway -Monroe
#2 South Sound Speedway - Tenino
#3 Spokane Raceway Park
#4 Yakima Speedway
#5 Wenatchee
#6 Ephrata

You've forgotten a few others right here in Southern California.
Famoso, Eagle Field, Qualcomm, just to name three off the top of my head.

You left out the 1/8 mile strips at Tuttle and Forks. There's also an occasional 1/8 mile at the Dalles Airport. Those, and the 1/8 mile at Monroe, are all unsanctioned. I think overall, North and South Carolina have a LOT of drag strips. Butch/56sedandelivery.

I didnt forget them I just named the few local tracks to my home. Bakersfield is 3 hours away and Frenso is 5 hours away. I thought Qualcomm was for imports only like fast and Furious movies?

Kentucky has 11 but 2 of them are dirt/sand drags. I know it's not near as many as Texas but the states not near as big.

There are 20 or so in NC. Another 10 in SC and a dozen in GA. Add 15 from TN and 10 in AL. There's about 65+ in the Southeast, an area smaller than the state of Texas. Most are 1/8 mile.

Maryland would be hard to beat at 1 dragstrip for every 2000 square miles. I grew up in Virginia so I've been to all those strips. Not much has changed in 35 years.

Definitely not AZ. We've only got 3 in the whole state and 2 are on shaky legs.:(

I thought the Fontucky and Irwindale strips were closed. And isn't Pomona only used for major races.

Here in Iowa we have less then you can count on a single hand. Dirt ovals are much much more prominent here.

I guess I should know the answer to this question since I have decals from a few hundred drag strips but in truth I am not sure.

I do know that many states have between 5 and 10 drag strips.

It's a good question and I am sure someone will sit down and do the research to come up with an answer.

What about the Mohave mile. Not a trad. Dragstrip but would still be fun.

Up here we have sacramento 1/4 mile and sears point/ Infineon or whatever they call it these days

Roundy's, we have placerville, marysville, Chico, and a 1/2mile at Calistoga. And we have a asphalt circle in Roseville

I know I'm missing some to

Edit, we use to have champ cars run at cal expo on the 1 mile horse track

Ohio has 13, not bad for the size of the state!
One of the nicest in the country is Summit/Norwalk!:D

22. Qualcom ?? Ed I didn't know there is a strip there.I have been to Barona and I really enjoyed that place but I do wish it was a 1/4 mile.Come to think of it.....they dont even race a 1/4 at Pomona anymore at least the bigboys dont and im pretty sure that is all that races there.

Is Fontana closed ? I thought it was but maybe im wrong. It was a total afterthought but at least it was a 1/4 dragstrip. It really sucks how there isn't much for dragracing around socal anymore.

I personally love Famoso and I wish there were more events held there.I really like the whole place and I think it is the closest thing to the way some of the old famous dragstrips used to be.

Like I mentioned on a different thread with the gentleman who started this thread........I miss Brotherhood Raceway on Terminal Island ( R.I.P. Willie). I know it wasn't at a professional dragstrip level but it sure was fun to be able to go there any weekend and see some good fast racing. And you could run whatever you wanted for ten bucks.

I was going to say Texas also. If Texas suceeds from the rest of the US i'm moving there before they close the boarder.
They got pretty ladies, rust free classic car projects, lots of Drag Strips, briskit and good BBQ and the people are proud of their state.

I can't stand it here in IL, it's cold, rusty, corupt, and our governors end up making our license plates

The Qualcomm deal is an eighth. Run by the local constabulary, to minimize street racing deaths. Fontana is currently "on hold" until they build a sound-deadening wall for the nearby nimrod homeowners, or something...
Famoso is still THE place. Gotta love a dragstrip run by the "Smokers, inc." ... :)

Dallas (Crandall) has been open again for a spell.

My latest intel has Abilene purchased for a 2013 re-open.
Nice facility too.

27. Well sorry Steve...didn't know there were races that often. Its not a weekly thing but there are quite a few nights during the summer months.I have heard they had some pretty good action during the summer but I didn't have a real schedule.

I love that track but I really wouldn't consider it a socal dragstrip. It is a little bit of a haul but worth it.
