I am shortening a early (74-78) Mustang II R&P steering gear. Upon dis***embly one of the inner tie rod ends had been removed. It has the threaded sleeve with locknut and pin setup. Someone had taken one of the threaded sleeves off and instead of re-installing it like it came off they tack welded the sleeve to the locknut. I was able to get it off but had to grind the sleeve down. I would like to put new sleeves and locknuts back on it. Does anyone know where I can get them? I have sent messages to a couple of the steering mfgrs. but get no replies. Also I would like to put new bearings on the pinion gear and seals in the housings. Where can I get these? Any help would be appreciated.

why not start out with a rebuilt or new unit? what are you installing this on? narrowed racks and A arms are available.

I could just order a new shortened rack-about $450-$500 but that takes all the fun out of it. I think that is what hot rodding is about-tackling something you haven't done and learning how to do it. This is going on a Morris Minor.

If you had a good rack, why not just cut off the ends to shorten.

I am going to shorten the p***enger end of the shaft and have it remachined. The tubing is already shortened and will be welded back together. My issue is trying to find new threaded sleeve/locknuts for inner tie rods, bearing/seals to rebuild while I have it all apart.

Mickeyab, came across your post and was wondering if you had any luck with shortening the R&P. I need to shorten one in the midsection by 3.25 inches and would like to save couple hundred bucks if I can.
