how many of you love this movie?? i personally watch it on a weekly basis (seriously) yeah sure the acting is a little shaky but its still my favorite movie. my favorite part is when they race the green '32. "make it 3 yards motherf**ker and you'll have yourself an automobile race." right now i'm trying to buy a huge Two-Lane movie poster off of Ebay so i can hang it in my room. any thoughts/comments about this cl***ic picture....
Wicked 55..one of the baddest in my oppinion.. Movie itself, poor quality, ****ty story and worse ending... But for some strange reason i've watched it a hundred time's...and still keep watching it. Ok, i guess it's not that bad....
I love that car! The movie is kind of goofy, but it does have a certain pull that keeps you coming back for more. The ending, well I had to rewind it about 5 times and I am still not 100% sure I understand it.
I got my 14 year old nephew hooked on that movie. I made him a VHS copy from my DVD. I think he is about to wear out that tape. Jonney
The best part is the realistic sounds coming from the hot rods. Too many times I've had my intelligence insulted by squealing tires on gravel and dirt roads and obvious 6 cylinder sounds coming from cars with V/8's in them. Hullo? We know what a V/8 sounds like. The "blacktop" 55 sounds absolutely MEAN! The GTO gives off with some good Q-jet music. I just love it whan Warren Oates playes a sonnata on the secondaries but I get a shivver when that 55's rock crusher whines through the gears... It's obviously a 2.20 low gear, close ratio box with low rear gears. The rpm drop between gears isn't much. DAMN! I just can't wait to row through my own close ratio box in my 40 chevy coupe. I wanna record the music!
Checked it out-3 of them were made for Two Lane Blacktop, 2 of them ended up in American Graffiti, one stunt car and one for normal driving scenes.
+1, first time i saw it i was like "what was that supposed to be!?!?!" now i've seen it a ****load of times and i know all the words. and about the ending, the girl is tired of riding with the driver and mechanic so she decides to start over traveling somewhere else and goes with the guy on the motorcycle. and about the race to DC, i have no clue why they just stopped racing, what about the pink slips they mailed to DC?? i wish they would have done a "more Two-Lane Blacktop" which showed the guys going to find the man who had some parts he wanted to sell real cheap, and then the 55 racing abunch more people. then the GTO traveling down to Florida to let his old wounds heal while picking up a new hitch-hiker every 10 miles, while he told them some bull**** story about everything he has done in his life and about how he was testing jets at the time and needed a little more action on the ground. i mean, you cant stay with the same high forever...
found this on the internet THE 1955 CHEVY Richard Ruth built three 55 Chevys for the movie Two-Lane Blacktop. (He can be seen as the Needles gas station mechanic wearing the "Glendale Speedshop" t-shirt.) One was the "camera car". This car was used for all the interior shots. The other two were filmed driving or racing. The Chevy was based on a 1956 Chevy that Richard Ruth had been street racing at the time. The 55 in Two-Lane had a big block 454 with aluminum heads, a tunnel ram intake and dual 4bbl Holley carbs. The transmission was a Munci M-22 "rockcrusher' feeding the power back to an Oldsmobile rear axle with 4.88-1 gears. Ruth fitted the car with a straight axle and four wheel disc brakes. The tilt front end was fibergl*** as were the doors and deck lid. Ruth also used plexigl*** for the side windows that slid back to front instead of rolling up and down. The wheels were American mags 200-s, 15x6 front and 15x10 rear. They used M&H Racemaster drag slicks for racing and Firestone grand prix rain tires for street use. In the movie the car is said to run "well into the 12's. However later in the movie he beats "Mr. Bardahl". I heard the 55 was capable of low 10's at over 130mph! Rumor has it they actually filmed the famed rollover for the end of the movie then cut it out in favor of the movie burnimg up.
I love the last scene in the movie where their racing and the camera is in the car and hes grabbing the gears and the ol 55 is raising up and down. The track that they raced at in Memphis (Lakeland) was shut down. Awhile back a buddy went by their. He said it looked just like it did in the movie it was untoched still had the advertisment banners hanging everywhere. Said weeds were grown in the track.
what about the ending?? its just james taylor racing some guy he met at the diner, then it shows the in-car camera view of taylor going through the gears, then they set the film on fire for a cool looking effect at the end. pretty much all there is to it.
There IS no ending! They just keep on racing. What do you want them to do? Fall in love, get married and settle down? That might satisfy PFLAG but not me!
I had never heard of it until the sample on the Mad Fabricators Soundtrack got me looking into it. I still haven't seen it- I can't jusitfy the stoopid prices the DVD version is going for!!
dont get it off the internet. by it at one of those movie stands at like a Goddguys show or something. they are reasonably priced there. and its deff. worth it, trust me.
Two Lane Blacktop literally saved my life. I wouldnt be on the H.A.M.B if it werent for Two Lane Blacktop nor would I developed the appreication for other motor cars At first I couldnt stand it, then I skipped certain scenes... now I love the whole film. "Watch the Bite" A gentleman (hamber) summed it up a few months back about the intendment of the movie. A true glimpse of how real people can be. Real people. My 55 is nothing close to the car, but I would consider myself a "Two Lane Wannabe"http://groups.msn.com/twolaneblacktophomepage/_whatsnew.msnw
Yep, while old godizilla and I were building our 55s last year we watched it most weekends, and it never got to be a good movie but it sure kept us jacked up..........
the original ending was s****ed,,i think there was supposed to be a wreck or something,,, what happens to the film at the end is what would happen if the film on the projector stopped at the movie theather,, the heat from the lamp would cause it to melt and burn,
Just did a bio search on Laurie Bird. She committed suicide in 1979.She was involved with Art Garfunklel,at the time. ???R.I.P. Girl
man that ****s, and of course the dennis wilson (mechanic) drowned while he was stoned/drunk. and james taylor is all messed up now becuase of many years of drinking/drugs. so what happend to the GTO driver?? is he back to testing jets??
Now, I knew that but I always thought the motor blew and filled the car with fire and he died but then I also wondered if it was a weird sort of symbolic way of saying he burnt out on drag racing during that last race. I spent waaaay too much time thinking about that ending!
Warren Oates died in 1982. I believe he was 54 years old. He was a good actor. Had that Bogie look about him...kinda beaten but never whipped, if you know what I mean. He never really got as big as he should have. Guess that only leaves James Taylor and the cars!
