1. Rodder's Journal: hot rod **** for the discriminating gentleman. 2. Hop Up: best pure-traditional mag hands down, great art direction by Coco Shinomoya 3. Hot Rod: amazing resurrection under Friedburger. Some indispensible tech stuff. 4. Rod & Custom: stalwart of the hobby (but has lost a step of two recently) 5. Garage: Bigups to Stoner for crafting the best of the 'lifestyle' zines. Perry pinups... hubba hubba. 6. Lowrider: Vato hoopties are a nice change of pace.
Hey, thanks for all the feedback here. TRJ is the best for sure but wouldn't it be nice to have a mag of that qua***y that was closer to a normal magazine price? I almost don't consider it a magazine, its more or a quartly book. Well, back to the top this post goes.
Ye Olde Skool Rodz and The Rodders Journal an occasional Hot Rod or Chevy High Preformance I can't seem to find Rod n Custom that used to my favorite.
TRJ, HOP UP, CK Deluxe..when it comes back, it's supposed to, Rod & Kulture, theres some good mags out there.
HOP UP My #1 favorite. It's got a certain genuine feel to it. I like almost every car in it. It's a mag with cars in focus and it is written in a way that makes you feel at home as a reader. Regardless of style, scene and what ever. From readin' the list everyone has made on this tread it seems that Mr. Morton is right about The 19 Paul
Street Rodder Used to get Southern Rodder, maybe 1 issue has shown up in the last 10-12 months. Anyone know whats up w them?
Although I subscribe to all the aformentioned mags, G***er Wars is the one I find myself impatiently looking forward to. Why? Probably because it's hastily thrown together on the kitchen table, in between races - that's right: it's made by racers, for racers, and it shows. I like that. Mainly, I like that it appeals to the tiny sliver of the car culture that I live in (just like the HAMB). Maybe someday I'll start my own niche magazine - "Primered Northwest Lowbuck Homebuilt G***er Magazine" - and get rich beyond my wildest dreams! Maybe not.....Until then, G***er Wars gets the job done for me........
I like the new hop up annual the best, it's worth the wait. TRJ is naturally another top pick. R&C is my favorite monthly mag, the cars are usually great, well written, well thought out. I havn't gotten american rodder in a while. Used to be my favorite, but I didn't like where it was going. Havn't picked one up in a while. Hot Rod is great if your a kid with a chevelle. Then there are lots of new little mags, I can't keep track of all of those anymore. Seems like lots are here today gone tomorrow. Don't get me wrong, there is some good stuff in them, nice that it's something different. Some are written better than others.
I like Traditional Rod and Kulture for all around purposes, Garage for lifestyle stuff and pinups, for photos I like Wizzz. Other ones that I do not suscribe to or get on a regular basis (which have all been mentioned) include: ******** Rod and Kustom, Burnout (awesome art) and Hop Up of course.
