used it many many years ago slow dry, shrinks, likes to clog sanding paper. Do yourself a favor and use the evercoat with hardener products far far superior to the old nitrostan product.

Use the good stuff first. It pays for itself in the end. Mike

Nitro-Stan and little buckets of gray water and wetsand paper sitting all over the shop, my foot always knocking them over. When I was 12 years old helping around the shop I would clean the buckets out and put in new water, really thought I was doing something. We had a couple guys who just wouldn't use anything else; given the choice of upgrading to stuff that wouldn't fall apart below urethane or hitting the road, they chose to hit the road. I rehired one of the guys just a couple years ago after he had worked for my compe***or for 10 years. The first thing he asked was where the Nitro-Stan was, and I knew I was in trouble!

It's works well for its intended purpose!.... It's not anodyne filler, I use it to fill tiny (tiny) imperfections in panels, mainly stone chips. I tend to only use it if I find these problems after sealing or first cost of base. Dries fast and can be coated quickly. It's a production product and would not use it on my customs or show jobs.

    Hey,

We usta take Nitro Stand and another putty called Green Monster and mix up small batches with lacquer thinner, and shoot it through an old primer gun! Kinda a poor man's hi-build primer:D You could shoot several piss thin coats on a panel, hit it with a heat lamp, and block a tight, chrisp body/character line in a panel, or clean up ''waves'' in a panel. It would ''gator'' on you up the road, but this was for hit and run butchery work or show work done to a tight deadline. Hell, some italian coachbuilders used this trick in the fifties, on complete bodies, and blocked them to perfection:rolleyes: Another use of these spot putties was when urethane bumper parts first started showing up on vehicles in the 70's, and you could mix some of the putty with flex agent and fill gouges in bumper covers and plastic parts-sand, prime & paint, and boda bing, one repaired part:)

Today, there are much better products that have been developed for repaint/repair work, but I still have one or two tubes kicking round the shop-they're hard as welfare cheese, put I still got um:eek:

I've used it in the past quite a bit, think I may have an old tube that still had the lead in it. It was known as "red lead". It still does get used in the industry and comes in white, black, red and gray. Agree that the 2-part products are better. I have used it in model car work though. Baked out in a dehydrator, zero shrinkage.
