Edit: The car sold! I can't believe it. Check my last post below. (#15)

Short and sweet. "What's it worth?" I'm selling it...or I should say, trying to sell it. I've listed it for 4K, which I'm thinkin' is pretty reasonable for a solid Hudson coupe, complete minus engine and trans. Maybe I'm dreamin'. The low offers surprise me a little. Got an offer for 3K, but considering that it has very little rust or damage, and it's a fairly rare model, I thought it would do better than that. Should I take the money and run? Or hold out for more? I know..."In this economy, be thankful for a buyer at all." But daaaaamn, man.

    It's a pos? (I don't think so)
Time of year? (Could be, though it didn't fare any better before)
The economy? (I can believe that)
Nobody likes Hudsons? (Hard to believe)

Btw...I have the front bumper and gril. Took 'em off to remove the engine and transmission.

Feel free. Give me your opinions...I respect what a lot of you guys think.

    Thanks guys. And Merry Christmas.

i have been watching this car. not that i need to buy it, just i think it's a nice. it's a shame because someone could spend that kind of money just getting one in this shape. i did see a '47 broughham a few months back at a smaller hudson meet with orig running engine for close to the same price. i think it just seems to be a buyers market and people are looking for deals.
i have tried to sell stuff at times for months and all of a sudden have 3 people at once wanting to buy. so don't give up. just depends on how long you want to wait.
i really think buying one in good shape is the way to go. i have bought several junkers, and while they are cheap and fun, you spend more time and money in the long run.

Thanks hoggy. It is nice...especially for this area. Even the fender flanges aren't rusted. No tailpan issues, the door bottoms are frickin' perfect, no holes in the floors, etc. It's one of the most solid old cars I've ever owned. One guy came to look at it...a "car guy", you know...but said he didn't wanna do the work??? I think I'm learning that even car guys are more likely to buy a running car. But if a drivetrain swap is the plan, what does it matter?

anything out of the mainstream has marketability issues tied not so much to condition and value as to the size of the potential buyer pool--- i don't think 47 fords or chevies

would bring any more money than you are talking about---if you are making money at 3000 sell it

I dig Hudsons. Always had a soft spot for 'em, but they sure aren't as popular as they could be. I'm usually surprised at how little even the super collectible '52-'53 Hornet coupes bring. There has been a SOLID & COMPLETE '53 Hornet coupe for sale locally and it won't sell at $5,000. Seems crazy to me. Have you tried pitching it strait to the Hudson club guys. They might be interested for restoration purposes... Good luck.

  6. Considering that Hudsons with that body style were never big with the hot rod or custom crowd. You would probably get more looks from restorers, maybe even street rod crowd.
Picture is worth a thousand words. Maybe do a quick bolt on of the rest of the shiny parts or heck even tape 'em on for a few quick pics.
All in all 4K ain't crazy, just need to find the right fish to nibble on the bait.

And don't forget to tell "them" how easy it is to upgrade to Hornet power. it's pretty much bolt-in and will turn that lightweight car into a beast.

If he offered 3K against your 4K asking price, go back with a counter offer of $3500, meeting him in the middle. If he really wants the car, he'll buy. If you want to hold out for more, then refuse the offer take pics with the chrome back on, and keep advertising.

Can't tell you guys how much I appreciate all the good input.

    Now the good news.

It's absolutely amazing...I had next to no offers for the longest time...and the fact is, I'm not doing real good financially. Didn't want to sell this car, but I have to. Had a heart attack this year, it slowed me down, and things here have gotten even worse. Needed to sell this car to be able to pay a couple of pressing bills and move ahead in life. I've been praying to God for a buyer...seriously...but doubted that anyone would buy it at this time of year. All of a sudden...BAM, BAM, BAM, BAM...I've got buyers comin' out my ears. I've got it sold for my asking price of $4,000. Unbelievable! To me, it's evidence that God listens, and can have a hand in things...if we only ask. Just wanted to share, especially considering that it's that special time of year, and you guys showed that you give a ****. Thank you. I wish all of you and your loved ones the best Christmas.

In the words of Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol, "God bless us...everyone."<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

EDIT: For anyone else that might read this thread. One poster quoted me about the Good Lord helping me out a little, and said this:

"Glad you sold it, but actually it's probably evidence that it's better to post a car for sale on this forum than in the cl***ifieds."

I don't blame him...I understand what he's saying...but he's mistaken. All the interested parties except for one were from Craigslist. One is a Hamber...a very good friend of mine. He actually offered to buy the Hudson just as a favor to me...before I ever posted this thread. He was even going to allow me the option of buying it back later for the same amount. Thanks Al old buddy. I didn't really wanna have him do that though, because he's got limited resources himself. It turned out that it wasn't necessary anyway.

Everybody believes what they wanna believe. We all have that choice.

    That is great news.

  20. If you ask me the car is well worth the $4000, given the lack of rust and the halfway decent paint. I've been asking $2500 for mine and it's not near as nice - but it's a '42, so it's more rare. But I need to bring it in and paint it, the paint on it is baked/worn off and most people are too stupid to see past surface rust.
