I have a 1974 highboy I picked up for $800 and have since fixed it up to where I could sell it for at least double if not triple what I paid. It has a 360 in it that is worn out and gutless. I have a 400m out of a 78' that is pretty suped up and really runs. I'm putting it in, I need to know if the bell housing is the same between them. If it is not that is ok because my truck is a stick so I can change the bell housing on it but I would like to kow if I will have to go get a bell housing before I start the swap
No its not the same the 400m is the same as a 351 clevland and the 360 is a FE series engine(352,360,390,427.428)
Whoa! The 351m and 400m are 385 series aka 429/460 bellhousing pattern, the 351c is a sbf pattern. Just find a M series bell or 2wd c6 and put it in since it is a divorced transfer case. That being said you may have some trouble with the motor mounts since I do not believe they put a M series engine into a highboy frame. Have fun!Herb.
My bad I was wrong wasn't real sure been a long time sorry for the confusion but I was sure the 400m wasn't the same as a 360 ..
