Have this 52 almost stock stepside and a 350 combo,it is posible to put it in without change the steering?
you spell just fine. you can do that, but you have to run without exhaust manifolds, but only on one side. that would be interesting. riverrat
I don't think you could get it in the middle without changing the steering. You could use a later '50's Chevy truck box and cut it to accept a Brogensen joint to get the steering out of the way. That's what I'm doing in my '54. r
Okay thank´s that was what i was afraid for, time to searth for a new frontend. Roger..........................................................
55-56 265 exhaust manifolds will clear the gear box. The drivers side outlet comes out toward the front of the manifold.
Here's a thread in another forum that gives a bunch of ideas to solve the problem. I hope this helps. -Rich http://www.stovebolt.com/bboard/cgi-bin//ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=009448#000000
when i got my truck it already had a 283 with rams horns in it. the guy that did it welded a big *** chunk of angle to the side of the frame and just moved the stock box/column out a little bit.
As 52 pickup said, back in the day, folks elongated the hole through the firewall for column clearance and spaced the steering box out a little. If I remember right it was 1" or 1 1/2". There were alot of these setups running around. If you go this route, put on some radials and good shocks to help with the road wander. This could get you by for awhile but for the long-haul i'd be looking at a subframe, s-10 ch***is or mustang II suspension. Sam
