like a temporary interuption to a pointless existance.
just rewind and play it again,
that's what the second half would be like.

    god I love that movie,
I've just about worn my copy out.

He's supposed to be killed in the car crashing at the drag race in the end. Originally they were going to have two cars that looked the same, one nice for racing, and one ****ty one to crash at the end. They ended up with two nice cars by accedent so they didn't film a crash, just gave an ending that hinted at it.

One car is still done up as in two lane, the other is still done up as it was in it's AG fame.

When I was 10yrs old my grandpa sat me down and told me to watch 2-lane. Then my other grandpa recorded off of Speedvision for me when I was like 15. I still have this copy- that is now 8 years old. A year ago my stupid *** brother recorded cartoons over most of it by accident. Excuse me I need to go beat him up again for it. (just kidding) I love the **** out of this movie, wish I still had it!

It goes without saying that it's my favorite movie also. With the ***les of the 55 and GTO in Washington D.C., I always interpted the ending that the government is the true owner of ALL of our cars. They control gas prices, smog laws, inspections, highway funding, etc.,etc. And lets not forget them wanting to haul off our un-licensed project cars if left outside for too long. In fact, there's SEVERAL reasons our cars can be seized that I'm not going to get into. Hell, I'm even losing my house soon because of eminent domain for a shopping center. Don't forget this movie was made in 1971 which pretty much was the end of the muscle-car era due to insurance companies and new lower compression ratios to appease government smog regulations. Too depressing to think about on this holiday weekend.

Now you've gone and done it,you went and made watch that damn drive in scene about 10 times here.LOL
Now I'm gonna add a little fuel to the fire.:D
I can't say for certain but I dont think the green car is a Model A or a Ford of any kind for that matter.
If you look close the windshield, side and rear windows are as big as a house.
Also the body bead under the windows ends with the doors at the cowl, unlike an A which continues on over to the cowl and then the hood.
The rear fenders don't have that clever little kick like an A.
At the risk of seeming sacriligious:eek: ,if I had to take a stab in the dark I would be tempted to guess the green car is a 32 or 3 Chevy.
But in any event at the very least the grille is anything but a Ford.
Let the debates and or corrections begin.;) T.OUT

Ok you got me...I went back and looked again and I believe your right on the non-ford. The shot of them getting ready to race got my head scratching...it didnt look like an A from the rear. The body does seem to be channeld and its unchopped so the windows do look huge. All right someone out there has got to have the answer.

One of my favorite movies. Definately my favorite car movie. Gotta agree with Rocky on this one...a lot of what I love about it are the sounds. But...I gotta disagree with anyone that says the story itself or the production quality ****s. Gotta remember that the movie was made in 1971 (heh I was 1!). At least to me it looks very much on par with most everything else that was comin' out then. As for the story, it may be short on words but it's pretty good. The ending? Girl sees it's going nowhere she wants it to go, takes off with the biker. Driver was really smitten with her but he's always keepin' his cool about it...well...usually. The very end was supposed to be JT rollin' the '55 but obviously went with the burinin' film. My theory has always been that he was thinkin' 'bout the girl and ****ed up...damn movies...it's always 'bout da girl.

I sleep with the movie under my pillow...its about the soul of all this car madness, not about movie making.

That one was my introduction to da Willys...my big bro' was watchin' it on tv one night when I was s'posed to be up in bed. I ended up watchin' it and fell in love.

Fast foward a dozen years or so...I spot it at a video rental place. "COOL!" It's in the vcr before my girlfriend even has her seat belt off. Well......the visuals were everything I remembered but damnnn the acting and direction in that movie really, really ****ed. Diologue was lame at best. I put in her movie 'til she went to bed 'cause I couldn't bear to put her through it. lol. Did turn out that I made a friend from CA later that makes a brief appearance in the movie though.

    Hey Steve Ray,
I'm not talkin' bout the girl.

I meant how did the race go.
Did the "driver" lose and that's why the film burns up.
I heard there was supposed to be a crash/burn endin' but they cut it in favor of the burnin' film endin'.

I guess I'm gettin' too deep into the "meaning" of the movie.

Just watch it and take it for what it is.

now this is a great movie!!!! the chick was in 8 is enough, theres of course trapper john, mr munn= sidekick from greatest american hero, the star was in mel gibsons payback, and he had one of the beat lines in payback when he said "funny thing about killin a chink is 20 mins later ya wanna kill another one" plus ed begley jr is in it ! it has to be great lol. lots of great tunes in there too, i made my own soundtrack years ago. best part of the movie is when the chick says be quiet when you leave youll wake up mr munn! so he hammers the willys sideways down the street in front of munn manor... "THERES ROOT BEER ALL OVER THE TRACK" oh yeah sonny munn was david on 8 is enough too

Its my favorite car movie of all time.
Are there any old surviors from the "LA Street Racers" that do remember
the nights in downtown Los Angeles?
Those were the times I'll never forget.

    Happy Labor Day.

oh yes i remember that movie. my friend still has a copy of thats one.
i love it when they steal the hemi out a matidore cop car. and that stude pick up was the ****.....

as for two lane blacktop i remember seeing that movie for the first time on speedvisions lost drive in a long time ago and i was hooked. i got the collectors edition a few months back, it came with a nice tin container,a mini movie poster and a 55 chevy keychain. and that chevy should have destroyed that coupe in american grafitti........

lets not forget another cool 55 chevy movie was "sometimes they come back"..the best scene was when the kid stops on his bike and then this black 55 jumps over this hill right at the kid. not the greatest movie but hey it had dead greasers goin after soeone in a 55 chevy with injected flames

oh and one more movie HA HA! "catch me if you can"(the fast freddy story), not the leonardo dicaprio one. cheeszy 80's movie but some kool cars.......

I've seen that movie so many times. Hell I even built the hoodscoop from the 55 and it now sits on my brothers 56. Right now he's thinking either tunnel ram or 6-71 blower. There's little mistakes in that movie like they say its a bigblock or a 440 dodge but really it was a AAR cuda that they all came with 340s. Its a great film

My dad used to tell me stories of the LA Street Racers. He was in the car club "T Timers". I remember him telling me about all the cars running around downtown and the racing, I would be transfixed on his every word for as long as he would talk about it.

Yea now I remembered what they said about the cuda with a hemi and a torque-flite but since I don't have the movie on me at this time I cant remember all the details but I may be totally wrong but I thought when they showed the cuda it was a AAR and they only came with a 340s. It could have been another cuda they were talkin about though.

This really is one of the only movies ever you could take out ALL of the dialogue and not change the movie one bit!! Did they really say anything that mattered? But, still one of the best car movies ever. I give it 2 thumbs up!!
