Projects Finally a HAMB friendly ride.

My Dad and I split on this 03 F350 for a few hundred bucks that his work was s****ping. Although it was rusty, it ran great, and we needed something to put the shingles in so we could do the roof on our house. The trucks un Hamb like but stick with me.

The other day, my Dad and I were drooling over 50's trucks and talking about selling the truck in the spring so we could buy one, when I noticed an add that said "Cl***ic car runs, will trade for truck" with a picture of a 50's sedan covered in snow. I jokingly said I should reply, but my Dad rolled his eyes and said that was silly, and he would probably be offended, I argued maybe he couldnt fix it or didnt have time for it and maybe really would like a 03 F350, who knows..? So I sent him a message, and to both our suprise he was thrilled, and was all about it, he said the car had no rust(Which I doubted and was right) and would start right up(Which it did). So we rented a trailer and headed out yesterday morning, the car started right up and I drove it on the trailer.

All salty at home, I cleaned it off but it started to get dark..


So overall we are very happy, currently it has no brake pressure, so the plan is to find out whats up with the brakes and change all of the rubber components, change the tires for some without large cracks, do a tune up on the engine, clean the carb, and drive it. I am restoring my sisters super beetle right now and the garage is occupied by it so I dont want to tear it all apart, but next winter We will pull the body off of the frame and fix it right. The interior is amazingly nice though. It has some bondo, and done rivited in patches on the floor and inner rockers.

I'm 23 and going to be going to college so progress will be kind slow, but thankfully it does not need alot. Its the oldest car we have, but I drive a carbed car everyday, and wouldnt have it any other way.

Thanks guys, my Dad brother and I are going to share it, I'll be doing all of the body work and welding and they will help as much as possible.

Its got a straight 6, which runs excellent but has some JB weld or some **** on the left side... So thats a bit scary... We let it run for a good 45 min yesterday, and no leaks but... I hope to keep it a flathead though so maybe well be able to find a replacement if its cracked.

Were cleaning and polishing today, found some more scarey repairs but so far so good.

I've always liked those Pontiacs from '49 to '54. Congrats on trading into a pretty nice car.
Any plans for the grille? It might look good with a floating grille bar, '55 Oldsmobile or similar.

 

Thanks, I am not sure what were doing with the grill yet, the one that came with it is pretty pitted, so were just going leave it off and see what happens, something cool will come up.

The car came with a spotlight too, it says Perfection model S80 on the bottom but looks different then the ones I found online. It has a different light and a little mirror on the back? It seems locked up but pretty cool.

Maybe a motorcycle headlight?

 

S****ping a great running nine year old truck because of rust?!?! That thing must have been completely rotten underneath. Thank God I dont live where it snows.

How the f does something rust out that bad in nine years? That had to be a ridiculously corrosive work environment

 

You would be correct, it was at my Dads steel plant. They could not wash that brown stuff off it was like concrete, that could get wet. I got it off with vinegar. The cab was clean but for some reason the bed was killed. The truck had 78,000 km.


Its pretty sad the Pontiac has less rust. lol

 

Great trade and fine start to a project.

 

Took it for a bit of a drive today, worked great. My Dad cleaned the carb, which was very dirty, and then it had no problems running. Before you would have to choke it with your hand to get it to go.

I ended up driving it quite a bit yesterday, just around the blocks becuase the brakes are very soft, but otherwise it runs great. Everyone that heard we got it had to see it yesterday so I kept bringing it out front.

Seems the block cracked previously, and was JB welded as well as welded, and seems to seep a bit of coolant, but the last time I drove it it had stopped... It ****s the engine runs so quiet too, hopefully its saveable....
