I have been working on this truck since summer time, it belongs to my uncle who bought it in 69. He described it as a hot rod truck when he got it, it had a 283 in it and a corvette axle from the 50's. He drove it until the frame rotted out from under it. He wanted to restore it so it was dis***embled and a "new" frame was purchased. There use to be a car club that he belonged to that apparently closed and all the cars had to be moved so it has been in storage since the early 90's as a rolling cab. now that you have a little back ground on it, some pics. the power plant is a 327 board .040, backed by a TH400 When he got it, one of the prior owner had destroyed the dash to install a gauge set from a 50/60's truck. I picked up a 36' car dash and started grafting it into the truck. Still have some work to do is it is still rough.
Looks like a fairly solid old hauler. It should make a decent ride when you finish bringing it back to life. Frank
Was playing with some of the extra parts, made a new leaf pack with revers eyes to drop it down in the front. I need to add in at least one more leaf so the U-bolts has better contact.
The 37 up axle has much less space between the perch hole and king pin, than pre-37. I'm not brave/or/skilled enough to try that one, or the thick 32 one, either.
Nice base to start from. Those first pics have the cl***ic early 60s drag truck look, just drop the back a little and you're in business. I like the last pic best, though.
Working on the fuel system this weekend, the tank was just sitting in the frame. Looking on line the tank is held in with 3 bolts and one has a spring. The only drawing/diagram I could find showed the spring on one of the driver side bolts. Is it mounted with one bolt on each side and one additional spring loaded bolt on the drivers side? Or should it be mounted solid on the drivers side and the spring loaded bolt on the p***enger side?
