Lake headers TOO loud...baffles? Mufflers?

My headers are attracting way too much negative attention in my neighborhood and I want to quiet down a little. I have Sanderson Limefire headers off an 8BA flatty, and I don't want to run a full exhaust system. Does anyone know of a baffle or muffler of sorts that would hook to the end of the headers and maybe go inside the headers? Thanks for any info in this...

I remember a while ago a saw some one on here make some using a tube with a series of holes running down it, and large washers at either end. Maybe someone else can find the link.

We used to build header/sidepipes on stuff. Get some old gl***packs and cut em open. There's almost always a tube with flat ends similar to what tysond is mentioning. Salvage that and mod it to fit. If need be you can "stuff it" with muffler insulation or steel wool before you weld it in. With the short header you have don't be surprised if it doesn't get as quiet as you want.

Noise (sound waves) need to be captured (attenuated) in order to change tones. The effort is to eliminate certain "frequencies" and achieve a pleasent sound.

Summit racing sells baffles for stuff like yours. I think the company is called Car Chemistry or something similar.

Aren't some guys running dunebuggy(Volkswagon) header inserts? I remember looking at them on a VW site. They aren't very expensive.

Bug Pack sells a fibergl*** insert that is about 10 bucks and takes 1 screw to hold in. It's for the BAJA bug tailpipe that looks very similar to the speedway kit. I did a tech on it a long time ago but I think it may be long gone...

Talk to beatnick he has some baffels in his roadster and its not loud at all but has a nice tone to it still. I tried that washed trick on my car just stuck them in the end of the dumps behind the wheels and it sounded like ***! If you ever heard a 80's crown vic with a hole in the cat? thats what mine sounded like with the washer baffels.

That roadster of yours is one of my hero's. Haha. I really like the overall aesthetics of the car. Hats off to you for a great build. As far as lowering the decibles...scratch that. Just come on down to the dirty south portion of California and let'er scream. I've had a couple LOUD cars and no one in my city really gave a damn. I wonder why the lights in half the houses on my street came on when I came home anytime after 10pm...:p

Seems like these would be nice and easy to remove, maybe throw some steel wool in there as well? Thanks for all the ideas and info...

They look a little pricey, but I'm sure you could whip something like that up real quick...

A local guy used a pair of gl*** packs. He cut them so just the round end and exit tube were left showing when they were installed...looked cool as hell...kinda like a bomb

    Here ya go.

TECH: El Cheapo Lake Style Header Baffle.Lots O Pics

Only cost a couple bucks to make. I went to my local ATV/Dirtbike store and bought some header packing to wrap around them and it sounds great. Over 1000 miles and no troubles(cops or otherwise).

You can use motorcycle baffles. Maybe cast offs from a louder pipe project!?

I run one of the Speedway Motors auger baffles on each side of my car. I think that 2 per side would have been wiser.
