WE WERE BROKEN INTO LAST NIGHT!

But they couldnt get past the interior screen security gate I fabbed up after the extrior door was breached and the alarm sounded! OK, not a thread full of " how to build your rod", but mabey some insite how to keep the cash that funds the build.

We own a small business with 3 employees at a mini mall, my wife runs it and I get the 75 mile commute to the Chevy Dealer daily. She works 7am to 7:30pm 7 days a week from Thanksgiving till Christmas. We get a call last night around midnight from the alarm company, jump into our clothes and race to the store. Front door locked, front screen secure, alarm sounding. I run through the store like a 13 year old playing a point of view war video game and sweep it noticing the rear door open. As I rush to the rear double locked screen door ( which I fabbed 7 years ago with a 110v Harbor fright welder) I am greeted by testosterone fueled and armed Officers. After what seemed like 5 minutes of yelling back and forth with me and my wifes hands in the air, we unlock the metal screen door. They sweep, take notes and leave telling us it happens every year and Merry Christmas.

We call our 24hr locksmith Eddie. His response time is also quicker and while I'm quickly hammering some metal door and protecto plate body work, he gets an industrial dead bolt ready. The *******s pried the protecto plate, pried the door to sill and chisel punched the bolt which broke its mounting point to the lock and it fell out, door opens. The alarm sounds and they try quickly to get past my double dead bolt metal frame screen door with no luck- FU@#&RS! Eddie is quick and in no time we are ready to go home until he says " did the cops check the other doors back here along the backside of the mall?" Nope, we found 5 of them breached. He says every year---especially Christmas day and New Years Day. He re-keyed 56 locals last year, all the same m.o. and all had visa machines gone.

Here's the moral to the story- The thieves are ******ing visa machines and trying to grab stored numbers to pilfer later. We leave our cash register drawers open and visible, we will now try to secure the visa machines. Even though the store is armed and running video, they are still trying. For those retail business owners out there, good luck and take precaution.

Wonder if motion sensors or sound sensors would have saved the doors/locks?

Time to use that welder to build a better rear door. The other retailers have learned a tough lesson. Maybe the landlord can step up with better lighting, security, and doors. Butch/56sedandelivery.

  5. This is the reason why I barely use a card, cash is how I do my business plus some places will give ya a discount for cash. Its very easy to have your iden***y or credit card info stolen. Have a fellow hamber who just got hit for 1000$ and I suspect its because he refuses to use cash and pays for everything with a card.

Just glad you did not get hit. Merry xmas Newfisher and ya'll by the way.

To avoid being considered a "bad guy" by the police, it might be best to not enter a broken-into facility, even if it's yours. Meet the police outside and let them be the first ones in.

Visa machines in most places just sit ontop of the counters, we are looking into a locking system like the grocery store ones.

Rear Mall doors are flush with the building and in a dark alley.
We have urged the landlord KimCo. to address the issues, but deaf ears.
Buy the land your business sits on if you can, we can not as a franchise have a stand alone building.

Next year how about setting up a survalince camera to view the door from the outside with a motion light on your door. Most camera's are 12Vdc a 12 volt dvr would do the trick. I'll loan you a camera.

Great advise, but at 12:30 after a couple hours sleep, gone in 60 seconds driving to your biz, 6'4" 240, Xmas sugar high etc. I wanted to kill someone.

Rethinking it last night, you are absolutely correct. Adre****in is a scary thing that makes rash people do stupid things. I'm just glad they did'nt shoot my hoodrat wife that thought she was p***ing me to get through the door like a pitbull.

We totally expected no one to be around. They local police line went unanswered on our Indy car drive to the location, so we thought they wouldnt be there. When I swept the area headed out back, saw the door open, but screen closed, we started running to the door. The police came around the back way and walked up on us at the same time, just seperated by a metal screen and 2 glock barrels. All we saw were 2 figures and flash lights, lots of yelling and my wife on super pissed mode.

well I am glad you have the common sense to ****on that place up like you did. Even though it ****s to get broken into, those retards will think twice about entering your store again because it was such a pain in the *** lol.

I've personally done quite a few surveillance systems , one system in particular has software that will email you when the motion sensor is tripped and it starts recording at that point . It can be a p.i.t.a. at times but it can pre-empt a real problem .

around here cops don't show up for alarms. if you get burglarized, they direct you to make an online report.

Can be a real pain in the ***!!

Many 30 mile drives at wee hours of the morning caused by a mouse/squirrel, headlights from a vehicle turning around in the parking lot.

Sound detector going off because someone forgot to turn off air compressor or store next door getting an early morning delivery!

Steel double doors, barred 3/4" thick gl*** and 5 cameras. Still they try..

It's getting that way here too, hence the 10 minute ring from me to alert them but no answer at the cop shop. I could have called 911, but it's not life threatning and didn't want the lecture.

Headed over to resecure the guard plate with a new stainless one after work. My wife has been updating me with the news from the other buisness owner...we were so lucky! Looking back at it now, I have had a concealed license for 24 years and I never carry. The thought crossed my mind to grab it on the way out but decided to get in the rig before my wife peeled off without me. We are really glad that I hadn't taken a weapon and swept with it drawn when we encountered ( scared) the police comming through the back door. Up here it's a shoot and ask questions later task force, dead men don't speak in court. Something else for those of you to think about.

We do get a discount with ours. We also have motion inside. It's $74 every 6 months to get the phone call when it goes off.

You should all check your credit reports or watch your visa transaction reports this time of year to see if other businesses in your areas have been compromised.

this type costs more but ends up saving more, a motion activated system that dials your cell phone plus you can do random checks by phone. also setting up a old computer to record what goes on helps and will give you a piece of mind.

crazy...I'd like to punch em in the nose. I had a friend who was broken into Sunday while they were at church. Broke into their car at church...got the garage door opener and car registration. Went to their house and filled up their second car in the garage full of valuables and were gone before anyone knew. There is a lot of s*** out there. SO...I guess leaving registration and garage opener in your car unlocked is now on the list of unsafe things to do. I have heavy padlocks and an alarm on my garage.

Get a decent dvr and you can avoid most of the bs alerts. If you want to go with motion alerts get one that will let you select the area of the screen that will trigger an alert as well as threshold settings. That way if there is a window in the shot you can filter that area out so that you dont get a text or email every time someone walks by or get one that has trigger inputs and wire them to door sensors, and gl*** break sensors.
