I am rebuilding an 8BA with a Merc crank, pistons, heads, and stock intake so I can p*** it off as a Merc to go along with my '39 Merc transmission and rear end. None of the valve train could be salvaged. Can anyone recommend one-stop shopping for a mild street cam, lifters, guides, springs, keepers, horseshoes, seals, and valves? I do not plan to install hardened valve seats. Also, can anyone recommend a machine shop that works on flatheads in Central Texas?
EGGE, Speedway, (my source) Red's, So Cal. Speedway has the entire valvetrain available. My cam choice was the Isky Max-1 , but there's a lot of other good ones. Happy Roddin' 4TTRUK
The Isky gave me some added low end grunt along with a pair of 97's on an Offy intake, with tube headers, and has nice street manners. 4TTRUK
I was also looking for flathead parts and did a one stop from Patricks in Arizona 520-836-1117 Pistons, rings, valves, keepers, guides, springs, main and rod bearings etc. I enjoyed doing business with Patrick as when you orderer you speak to Patrick and he is VERY good about keeping you in the loop via telephone on your order's progress, shipping etc. Also I purchased a BEAUTIFUL Isky 1007b from PETE1 here on the HAMB, it degreed perfectly this weekend during ***embly. It was a piece of art out of the box but covered in grease in the photo.
as for headers, either build your own or red headers. For most of your internal components all suppliers carry about the same parts. just a matter of how good they are about warrenties and what not. having said that i live in lincoln ne, same as speedwaymotors. but i sent my money to H&H. i have heard nothing but wonderful things about h&h, reds, and patricks. might i recomend you going with a bubba's ignition system. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=426619&highlight=bubbas+distributor this is what is going in mine http://www.lindertech.com/bhrs/flathead_mallory_chev.htm there are several threads similar to this, and dale (Bored&Stroked) has acouple fallow up threads that are very much worth the read.http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=420484 good luck!
