Are there differences in the look/design of O.E.M. steel wheels from the 50's & 60's? I'd like to do a painted steel wheel/piecrust whitewall set up.

I'm not talking wheel size, backspace and bolt pattern. I'm asking about how the stamping looks or was made.

  3. By the mid '50s several of the manufacturers started making wheels with the raised center and nubs to hold the cap on. The earlier wheels in the '40s looked like '40s wheels.

Anyway a lot of the mid '50s wheels looked just like '60s wheels.

There are some exceptions but for the most part from the mid '50s on the wheels pretty much looked the same as '60s wheels.

14s came in around 57. On chevys, we would look for station wagon wheels, because they were deep dish and slightly wider. that time was around 64-or so. I think they are called 409 wheels now.
