My brother and I are headed in, leaving tomorrow with chainsaws, Bobcat and dump trailer. About helping people first and hopefully making money. Who knows what a guy might find. I will probably be back once a month or so and check in.
Be careful. Hopefully you are packing. Some of those people are out of control. I dont get it. Havent had food or clean water for days and robbing people for their stuff. You cant eat watches and tennis shoes....and they dont have a house to take the big screen they stole to.. I feel sorry for the good people that have lost so much. Good luck to you and all that are helping.
Thats cool you are going, what does the "hopefully making money" part mean ? making money off who ? L
Hey be careful in there, my buddy is doing "clean up" as well, and he said its at times some people can get out of control.
I'm sure he's referring to the fact that he is being sent there by the comany he works for. A huge committment from him and the others that are also going.
or he is going hoping to make some money from homeowners looking for help cleaning up their property. With a mess like this, there will be lots of folks needing the service.
If he's going on his own he needs to check the law.Don't know about Miss/La, but unlicenced contracting in Fla. (tree cutting for example) is a Felony!
Good Luck. I hope you will be honest and charge fair prices for your work. As a claim adjuster who spent 7 months last year in Florida handling hurricane cleanup I saw first hand the outrageous prices charged by out of towners to the old folks who needed their yards cleaned up and debris removed. It made me sick to see how often people got taken advantage of.
JB, best of luck. You are a saint and I wish you the best of health. Those people really need your help. To everyone else that replied to this thread, this man is first a great humanitarian and secondly a provider to his family. I tried to talk him into waiting until things got settled down there first before leaving. That's when he told me that he is doing this first to help the poor suffering people in N.O. and then worry about finding work later. JB is a God fearing man and I know he will make a difference. His brother is a lic. contractor if I recall him saying. As for price gouging, well, unfortunately it's all about supply and demand. If the guy helping someone rebuild across the street is getting $100/hr. for the same work (because he can), why should you work for $50? In addition to that, if you put me in a hazardous situation with disease infested water, lack of food, etc. I would want some kind of "hazard pay." If JB wanted to just make a buck, he would have waited until the water receeded, the city was secure and it was safe to go in, make a killing, stay in a hotel with room service (he will be sleeping in his truck), etc. I for one think everyone should be wishing him luck and good health and support. Enough of the second guessing and drama...three cheers for Willowbilly3!
