I ****ed up, and now I gotta go get my crank for my 324 Olds repolished. I'm brand new to the area and am looking for a recommendation on a solid local machine shop. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

  3. What exactly did you do to the crank?

The only shop I would take my crankshaft to when I lived in CA is Castillo's Crankshaft in La Mirada. Most engine machine shops send it to them.

  5. i use vellios pretty regularly for day to day stuff, but i would call valley head service in northridge or L&R in santa fe springs.

Having never ***embled a motor... I didn't think to cover the rod bolts before I put the pistons in. I ended up scarring five out of eight journals. I was able to hone the burrs off to where it's smooth to the touch but Tony recommends that I have the journals polished to be sure. They are still standard diameter. Northridge is pretty far out of the way.
I was hoping for someone close enough to drop the crank on my way to work one morning. I take the 110 N to the 101 N into Hollywood every morning. Thanks for the recommendations. Any more would be appreciated as well. I'm going to call around and get some prices.

    Thanks guys!

You might try Team C in Bellflower. They are off the 91 between the 710 & 605 freeways. If I remember correct the #562-866-3887. They have there own Machine shop.

Use a punch and mark your crank. My buddy took a steel crank to Vellios and they tried to give him a cast crank instead.

That's great advice anyway. I'll mark it and be sure no matter where I end up taking the crank. I'm going to get in touch with Valley Head Service. It appears they have Saturday hours from 10 am to 2 pm by appointment so maybe I can have them do it afterall.

    Thanks guys, and Merry Christmas!

A customer had the same problem with Vellios, just needed the seats touched up on a fresh set of heads and got back someone elses with cracks.

Had the same problem some years ago. The heads we took there were marked but that didn't help any. They refused to take any responsibility for it.

Okay, so Vellios is officially off the list! How does a place like that even stay in business?

    AD NAPCO,

Just happen to come across this thread. Valley Head Service is closed for the holiday days until Jan. 2. However, Larry and some of the guys meet at Marie Calender's around the corner from the shop on Saturday Morning and go to the shop afterwards to work on our own fun stuff.

From what you describe it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to micro polish the crank. You may want to call before making the trip. 818-993-7000

And thank you for your consideration.
