Nice. I used to see Art at tractor pulls in the mid to late 70's running his "Mean Ole Alice" modified Allis Chalmers. I don't think that most of that crowd realized who he was and what he had done outside of the tractor pulls.
Arts a local legend here. My buddys dad and him raced together. We are lookin for the Henry J with the Pirate holding the machetti and a head. His shop still has Home of the Green Monster painted on it....
WOW ! I remember reading all I could about the guy when I was "younger". One of my IDOLS, for sure. THANK you for putting together such a wonderful tribute to "the man with a vision" !!
They would bring the Allison powered Monster out west on tour. I raced at LADS, San Fernando, Paradise Mesa and Colton. Every run they made the ground literally shook. Fun to watch and imagine the fuel bills? Even the Unlimited Class Hydro-plane owners would turn out to watch them. That was an impressive engine. Normbc9
In 67 art came to Fort Dodge with the green monster who was also tourin with the batmobile! All my 7year old buddies wanted to see the batmobile but screw em i wanted to meet one of the craziest fastest n coolest guys on the planet n wasnt disapointed!
Thanks for sharing your memories, guys. It's great to know that Art is still so remembered. He sure was one of a kind.

That was Great samhawley!!! Saw Art run in the early 60's at Dragway 42 West Salem OH. several times, and then again in the mid-sixties at Drag City Fontana CA. Incredible! .
