Being a newby you guys probably don't care, and wouldn't validate my point since I don't even have a car that qualifies yet but here goes. I spent a lot of time over at a website that was all about Oldsmobiles, and two years (two too many) as a member of a local Oldsmobile club and saw the same at***ude at those places as what I am seeing here. The good old boys club. "He's not like us so he's not cool". It is a way of validate who we are and what our club (whatever it may be) is all about. I am not giving you guys a ration of ****, just observing the facts, it is so evident to me. I like being a part of a group, it makes me feel better, that's why most people do it, but I try to refrain from coming down hard on somebody else because they are different. Comically, at the oldsmobile site someone posted a link to some pictures from a car show in Japan where the bigger the wings and the more outlandish the "gound effects" were the better the car was deemed. "Ricers" are almost as much scorned as small block chevies at that site so everyone was getting and good belly laugh out of those pictures and quite a bit of scornfull comments. But that's the way it is. It's no different here........
Sorry Doc, there's no way around it. That car is ugly. Don't care if Sam Barris himself came back from the grave and leaded the thing together, it's a horrible car. http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050905/LIFE/509050301/1005
I feel like figthing today. Oldsboy, you definately haven't been here long enough to say what you did. Obviously you haven't read enough threads, or at least read the important ones, including the purpose of the HAMB. TRADITIONAL rods and customs! Do you know what that means? Even though it's hard to define, and many even argue about the finer points of it, most know it when they see it. That abortion is NOT it. This is not an Old Boys club, either. But when someone posts something so obviously wrong, we comment on it! We are here because we have "mostly" the same tastes, and the same dislikes. And we "dislikes" that thing A LOT!
I could see how it would make sense to some people... Efficient low milage drive train, ergonomically correct seating, lots of testing done on heating, defrost and A/C. Trouble is... its all done in a sea of NVH tested plastic. Its in no way a Traditional Hot Rod or Custom. It seems to me this thing is the brainchild of a Street Rodder, and I wonder why it had to show up on the HAMB in the 1st place...
I'm not a fan of cars like this where somone has grafted old sheet metal to a late model car. They pretty much always end up looking awful (T-Bird/Shoebox, S-10/'40 Stude truck, etc.). I have to admit that this car appears to have some decent lines (hard to be certain from the photo angle). It's nothing that I'd ever build or own, but I actually think it is a reasobably good looking car.
Some of you guys would have been the worst ****-retentive restorers the Kustomizers of the 50's and 60's ever had to listen to... "Why are you screwing up that perfectly good car?...You should restore it with all original parts, I have some of those parts for sale, but they'll cost ya pleanty...." It's getting painfully obvious, If I gotta explain it more, you still wouldn't understand! So why don't you guys go do something positive like go help sandbag a levee.
Opinions are like ***holes, everyone has one and they all stink....In My Opinion that car is ugly as hell, but I bet the guy that owns it loves it and good for him..The bad thing is in life there are to many band wagoners and not enough individuals.
