Jim (spiderdeville) is just playin around, don't worry about it.

I'm running the stock column in my 55 with a 70s looking aftermarket chrome spoke steering wheel, I think the stock wheel location is very good.

The van column is the only one you're likely to find at a reasonable price, you could look around and see if you can find one from a mid-late 60s full size Chevy, but they're kind of expensive.

Thank you everyone for all your help and suggestions. I guess I will have to live with what I have until we can find a column that will fix it properly. I'll keep everyone posted on how we make out. Thanks again!!

If you have not made any cuts on that column ,you maybe able to sell it and get the correct one....

    OR

Ididit is a good company and they will help you if you contact them on line and show them the same pictures that you showed us,they will have a solution to your problem .

Very nice car from what I can see and you are correct for trying to fix the problem..

Keep up the hard work and you'll have a ride that you can be proud of....

Do your homework before you let anyone work on your car from now on.

Your lucky and should have learned the lesson on the first guy that tried to get over on you .

Also you may have to wait until the good mechanic gets back in town...

    GOOD LUCK......

Has anybody installed power steering in a 57 chevy using their original stock column and a Borgeson Universal Steering Shaft. This could be a reasonably priced solution to our steering column problems until we can find a tilt one that will give us the results we desire. Any thoughts.

  6. i shortened a stock column with automatic shift 3 1/2". the shift linkage detent will end up inside the floor and you have to put a major "L" in it to get it thru the floor and cut floor to accomadate the mod. to engage the shift rod. it ****ed and looked like ****. I am ashamed of it. the people over at performance online didnt tell me all this **** before they sold me.and the techs were no help at all. borgeson sells a column modified to take care of the problem and make it look good. as well as cpp coast performance products. hope you benefit from my suffering.

If you decide to go aftermarket call me at Flaming River 800-648-8022 ext 113 and ill fix you up. Our tilt is the shortest aftermarket tilt available for the 57. As mentioned in a post above the shroud for a 57 is a little unique and it is a little difficult to get a regular tilt to work properly.
