there's no real point to this post, just some ideas about what i want to do and why to run or not. Thinking things out typing here on the HAMB. well. I have the bits to put my B motor back together and expect to do that soon. Do some test runs, get it sorted. Thinking maybe pacific ocean for a point B. I'm in jersey. Get Dog, some crap load up and drive. Dog is a jindo, Korean Dog ( looks like a big fox) from Ex Korean GF, well, she is still Korean, just not my GF anymore. It barks, bites, runs away and usually wants to kill every living thing it encounters, otherwise a very agreable creature. Good in cars. Although it does jump out of the roadster which is inconvienent at times. She will adapt. I expect. Some folks kinda expect me to attend to work and I am a little unsure about all that. A little guilt as I could employ a few folks at relatively good jobs. I used to do that a few years ago and it seems to be coming around again, I'm not by any means wealthy but have situated myself where I have no real bills and kinda just do odd stuff for work these last few years. I build Cellular towers and related stuff. Not lots of fun in the winter, yet they persist in having us work year round aside from the last 3 years where we did nothing, more or less. I might put a crew together and do some stuff or perhaps let them do some stuff and leave. Anyone here in central jersey area is welcome to contact me about possibly doing some work if interested. I am a civil contractor and do heavy steel on roof tops, dig holes & fill w concrete, build fire resistant equipment rooms etc... have national contracts with all sorts of huge corporations n all that. Yea off topic, i disgress and this isn't an appeal for help just feel like a bit of an ass comtemplating leaving when it is time to work. Some here might want to work and I do tend to be a bit of an asshole anyway. Nature, can't help it. Anyway. I had driven old junk cars for years and years when I was younger cause that's what I had and no fing way my dad as gonna spring for a car for me. that didn't happen in my house. ( I'm 45 ) I had a convertible caddy I got out of the impound yard ( a great place to find rides) that I drove all over to see the Grateful Dead, an old Box Nova before that went all over. Never had any real troubles good cause I never had any money. used to siphon gas out of motorhomes at night....life was fun. Food was optional, weed and booze were important. I still like booze or well, really just beer now, boring , I know. this one is a '31 A roadster with a hopped up B motor & 5 spd. Sun will be important as it has no side curtains. Warm is important as I like flip flops and cut off shorts and it has no heat. Did a 12 v conversion, lights are bright, brakes seem pretty good. tires fair. Anyone here do stupid things like this? Lessons from the road? I allready have a little sign that says " don't forget the Dog" thats from here at home when I leave the garage, sometimes If i 've been drinking I do forget but the sign helps me to remember. She is very forgiving unlike my GF, who gets mad when I forget her. She isn't coming, GF that is. So I figured it would be fun to leave here in the cold, follow the sun and go to california, have a few beers and go home. The car will break. I will meet people, the dog will like some, well maybe. I'm not totally sure she likes me but I feed her. Seems like a good idea, sorta. Pointless, I know. I think Ryan's book about his trip with the broken tailbone may have inspired this thinking. I did start with there is no point to this post, just thinking on the keyboard. I admitted to being a bit of an asshole. My dog bites people, I like that about her. No point in angry responses calling me an asshole or whatever, if you feel inclined towards that , well, I guess, do as you will. More looking for ideas of places to visit, people to sponge off of, people who want to get bitten by my dog ( she's usually nice after the first bite), stories from others who have done stupid roadtrips, especially that really. thoughtfully, Cheers! Matt & Suki ( Dog's name ) ( maybe coming to a place near you! )
Head south first, for warmth. Georgia and points west. Read Steinbeck's "Travels With Charlie" and William Least Heat Moon's "Blue Highways" first. Plan a vague route first. Avoid barrio and ghetto areas as best you can. Keep a journal and post here on the HAMB as you go.
Sounds like a damn good plan! Get your ass in the heap & drive! If you come thru Denver, I'll buy you a beer & let your dog bite my dog. Giddyup! Scott & Suzy
