It's pretty funny you said that actually. This is my thumb after a 250 lb entertainment center crashed into it about 6 weeks ago. Much more cautious now!

Here are a couple of more pics of the dash. I think it is lookin pretty good. Only thing is, I have a neat old speedo and a newer tach and a few other newer gauges. I'd like to find a newer speedo, or an older tach. We'll see.

Sold some extra sheetmetal parts I had laying around. I don't think I am going to do another coupe, so I let the parts go.

I think meeting the people I get stuff from / sell parts to is one of my favorite parts of this build. It is a way to meet some real good people you wouldn't have met otherwise.

Made enough to order one of those rebal wiring harnesses, just need to put the order in.

Over thanksgiving we got to drive 18 hours down to see my dad in florida. Had a great time workin on my dad's hot rod with him. My wife was board out of her mind, but I had a real good time! My dad's front spring was bottoming out on the axel, and being that it was thanksgiving weekend, we couldn't get a new one in time before I had to leave. So, I headed down to Northern Tool and got a trailer leaf spring, and we replaced a couple of his leafs with a couple of the heafty ones from the trailer spring. Man it road sweet after that, and my dad was STOKED!!!

Man I miss my dad! I've been trying to go see him every third month, but I still miss him a ton.

This is a pic of my girls in my dad's hot rod. He repainted it gold, and it looks a lot better than the flat black rat rod he bought!

Well, got my drive shaft cut down, floor attachments , emergency break cables, brackets and floor in over the last few days. Today was my first day off and so far so good! The break handel is off an international scout, worked pretty good.

Got the seat mounted, and the trunk floor in. I just welded in the old rumble seat floor, looks pretty good. Still not sure about a trunk fire wall. Also weled up my deck lid. That guy is pretty wooped, but it's the best I can do right now. Off to my wife's grandma's tommarow, Merry Christm*** everybody!

It wasn't the funnest part of the build but I thought it was pretty important, so I put in a fire wall for the trunk. It just seemed safer. It took most of the day and wasn't part of the plan . I got stuck at grandma.'s for an extra two days, so I am a little behind. May not get her runnin but hopefully we can get her painted at least.

I also mounted the gas tank.

With the tank in that location, I don't blame you a bit for installing the wall...Jim

Excellent. These are my favorite type of build threads. The ones with a personal story behind them. You're doing good work. Your daughter is precious. They do grow up fast. I still remember my wife having our first son like it was yesterday and that was 8 1/2 years ago. And now with a 4 year old daughter and another son that just turned 1. (He's in my avatar.) Happy New Year.

Thanks guys, yeah this was by far the best Christmas I have ever had and the best year. I can't believe how much I love my girls. That's why I've been working so hard this week, they are still at grandma's and there headed to a wedding this week, so I'm trying to get as much done as can, so I can spend more time with them when they get back before I have to go back to work.

Here's a couple of pics from Christmas, and happy new years and God Bless!!

Today I spent the day starting to put the top on. I felt like the guy at the tuna factory all day, trying to get the lid back on :)- I think it went pretty good and I'm happy with it. Prayed about it some before I got started and that seemed to help, who knew the Big Guy was a hot rodder too.
Well, I put a couple of screws in the front to make sure It didn't move on me, then I measured from the tack strip to the edge of the metal then transferd that back to the other side. I had to cut down my tack strips a little, and then I used some of my welding vise grips to bend the outside edge up a little. I found out about bending it after I had cut up the whole p***enger side... oh well....

Then I masked off the profile and cut it out. Fit pretty good. I'm going to have to push the car out tomorrow and turn it around to finish the front (my welding lead isn't long enough). But that should have finished up the whole back of the car, now to the front......!

i would love to do this for my dad. He was into hotrods before i came along. He helped me build mine and it was great spending all that time with him. Keep up the great work. Hope the coming year is even better for you and your family.

Got the fenders tuned up, radiator , grill and hood installed. Pretty sure I know why hot rods don't have hoods or fenders.... geez! The p***enger side's bracket were pretty beat, but they look decent now.

  29. The car's looking good!

I know what you mean about spending time with your wife and daughter, I typically work the '48 at night after the kids are in bed that way I don't miss time with them. They sure grow up quick.

Damn...how have I missed this thread for so long? Just read the whole thing and I love your style. It appears to be built on a budget these are the best builds. Good to see your wife is cool with you spending some time in the garage and that you still make time for the kids! My daughters about to turn 5 and my son is nearly 3 and they love being in the garage with me its a great feeling. I can do anything but weld and grind with them in there and they are learning all about the safety!

Anyway this is an awesome A I couldn't put the fenders back on it if it was me, but I love the look of it being un chopped! Keep it up I'm subscribed!
