When scuffing the body to get it ready for primer I was amazed at how smooth the welds Pete made for the chop were, if you weren't actually looking at the joint of the weld you wouldn't have known they were there. Everything was very smooth to the touch and feel, truly a craftsmans work!

(no offense Need Louvers ;) ). It reminds me of seeing a hood like that in the P&J Catalog around 1982 or so? Getting Exciting now!!!!! hope ya get her on the road soon!!!!

No offense taken! I humbly defer to Vaughn's mastery of the subject... Half of what I know about this stuff comes from studying his stuff...

Pete gave me my marching orders to have it done by March 1st. The next good day the frame gets painted and second good day the body gets primed. Should be in the next week or so. Just doing more prep for now. That's why there are no pictures.

Maybe I'll hijack Pete's sedan and just letter the doors.:D

  16. Who's that skinny kid driving it? :D Rumor has it, it's the same male model that keeps showing up in the recent pictures, but I don't believe it.

Now the question is, since that's OCIR is that a bleach or water burnout?

Pete does like to smoke the tires and keep it between the white lines. I can't wait to see the second generation sedan smoking them on the street. I have been a fan of his since I first saw his work. He is one fine craftsman.

That was water. I have always preferred a dry burnout for the intense rubber smell:eek:

The skinny bespectacled one with the mustache is yours truly.

Here's a question- the front wheels look rare, have you guys sourced a matching set? Not trying to start a thing, just wondering.

    Thanks for the quick response.

    lomonte-
I hope this answers your question. They turned out pretty good considering these were the first wheels I've ever machined. I will never machine magnesium again unless I can move the machinery outside. I can't afford to keep replacing shop vacs!

  26. Machining Magnesium and ***anium can really kill shop vacs. We had an episode when I worked on the B-2 Bomber program in the '90s where a hot chunk of ***anium lit off inside a Shop Vac and the guys were on top of the airplane and threw the vac over the side to save the airplane. I can still remember a flaming Shop Vac hitting the floor, and the fire detection system warning went off. You had 30 seconds to hit the abort ****on before the foam cannons went off, and there was enough AFFF retardant in the system to fill the hangar 2 feet deep with foam. Luckily, we were all well trained and the abort ****on was activated quickly. Something so simple could have heavily damaged a 2 Billion dollar aircraft. After that, they ordered some super-trick 100% stainless steel shop vacs with explosion proof provisions, Hepa filters, and an elaborate grounding system. I can't even imagine what those things cost the company, but they were worth it.

Most machinists want no part in milling Mag or ***anium. Can't blame 'em.

No need to apologize. Next weekend it should be in the 70's. Good enough to paint.
Only in the mid 50's today. I really need to step up my game and get more stuff done.
