I have noticed more ancient threads being dug up by fng's recently. It's not a huge deal really, but it's happening so frequent now that sometimes there is three or four threads on the first page at the same time that are years old. Do folks not look at the date on posts? I guess I'm just venting since I have no solution to it haha.

  2. That'd be the cl***ic '' damned if you do, damned if you don't"

Somebody starts a thread and it gets a “do a search, been covered before" responses.
Somebody does a search, finds an old thread and bumps it for a further discussion and then its not taken well.

What are you going to do?

Some of these old threads have great info that should or need to be added to.

FNGs have the same questions you had when you started. Why was it valid when you needed the info, but not for someone else? If they didn't repeat the same stuff over and over you could throw out major portions of car magazines.

I agree with you, but lately people are giving opinions on 6 year old volare clip threads, and asking banned users in 3 year old threads about progress on a project thread.

My issue isn't with the old threads with tech in them. It's when people bring back a 3 year old thread to say " cool" or to mention thy have parts for so and so for sale. If I search and find a "should I buy" thread from 2008 I would ***ume the deal has long since been resolved. Ya dig?

    Its cool...

Specially if its an old Tech Thread, or other usefull information.

But if its obviously past its sell by date or just an old Drama Thread, please Report it and we will take care of it.

    ^^^^this.

Also, I would rather someone bring up an old thread that's topic is close to the question they need answered, and continuing/adding to it instead of starting another one.

We all have fallen victim once or twice to posting on a thread before checking the start date:eek::eek:

I think it's a good thing when useful old threads get bumped.

not sure why its a bad thing when old threads get bumped most of the time, tech or pic threads are always cool; even if it is to say "cool"....(is it really old when were talking 5 years?...I mean, we drive 80 year old cars)

Old threads may be old news to old timers, but there are many a**** us who just recently signed on to the HAMB and are taking advantage of the huge cache of information (or mis-information in some cases) available. The HAMB community has grown from 87,000 when I signed up in 2009 to nearly 200,000 today. Not everyone has been there, done that and got the t-shirt....

You know what's gonna be crazy? 25 years from now when someone bumps a thread from 2001...

Personally, I think it's incredibly cool.

Well, as a fairly new guy here, (2 1/2 years) I really try to look up information that has already been discussed. If you are doing a cl***ic build, it's been done here and there is great stuff out there.
How old is the Tardell book and they sell copies everyday!
Good stuff here at the Hamb, you just gotta "dig it up".

Now I've got another A coupe and it's gonna be an Av8.

Trust me, I'll be doing a lot of unearthing.

Everyone always says "do a search!" plus if you compare the number of Hambers vs people that gripe, only a small percentage get pissed. Plus if the boss says cool, I say let it rip. plus I bet a lot of times once we get past an issue we neglect to go back and post a solution

Most of this is true, I think the OP was meaning when someone brings up a thread where someone needs an answer and is given one. Then it's brought back up and the conversation is continued not realizing the thread is years old and the OP has made his decision, or has even sold the car. These are the kinds of replies that most often get the gripe or this is a several year old thread.

If the thread has valuable info that can be added to it has an indefinate shelf life.

At what point is a thread too old to respond to?

I bumped one of my ancient threads because I actually answered it with a follow up tech post. It closed out the original question.

  23. Just use the search function.
There must be an old thread about it somewhere ... :D:D

  24. Alot of damn good information here ... and alot of it is buried, cool to see the good stuff brought forward ... but the drama threads? ... welp, who needs it?

Posting on a dead thread? OFF WITH THEIR HEAD! or maybe just ignore it and go on down the road. It is something most of us have done, not a big deal IMHO.

The old tech threads are what drew me here in the first place. I can't count the times that someone brought an old thread back up that I hadn't seen that had great info in it and was a great read.

The old thread's are awesome. Everytime I find a new one that has needed info, I subscribe so my ADD heavy brain doesn't forget it.
