If you are coming all the way from Sweden I bet some of the SoCal guys can help. Are you coming into LAX or SD? Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
Try Blair's speed shop. 2771 E. Foothill Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91107. Phone 626-795-7201. It's been in business since the 1960s
Actually, it was one of the first speed shops to open in SoCal. Late 40s or early 50s. I bought a MorDrop Model A axle there for $12 exchange. That was 1957 I think.
Hot Rod Performance in Torrance, Mark is very fair and a good engine builder... (310) 782-9200 1932 Del Amo Blvd, Ste B, Torrance, CA 90501
Hawaii Racing in Simi, has the largest inventory of speed parts on the west coast, not a street rod shop but carries all of the big name products and has them in stock at great prices, Talk to Bill and tell him Tom Curnow said to call, he will give you the inside prices http://www.hawaiiracing.com/
J & M Speed Center ! Riverside CA. J & M Speed Center was established in the Inland Empire in 1957 and continues to grow into one of the Premier Speed Shops in SoCal, specializing in High Performance Automotive Parts. http://jmspeedcenter.com/ .
J&M speed in Riverside, Hawaii racing in Simi Valley. And as mentioned before, Blair's in Pasadena. Last time I went to. "Service Center" , Anything I wanted had to be ordered. I bought a set of block huggers for a S.B.C. When I picked them up, I found them to be made in Taiwan and of seriously poor quality. Counter guy said "everything is made there, live with it". I didn't and no longer buy from Service Center.
J & M Speed Center has always (through the years) treated me right, and have never heard a discouraging word. Worth the extra drive.
Is anyone going to ask the obvious question ? Or just keep naming off every place with a spark plug they can think of for 20 pages?
Don Blair started the shop in 1946 just down the street from where it is today. Regardless of what Speedway advertises (they didn't come along until 1952), Blair's is the oldest Speed Shop still in business in the world! There have only been two owners, Don Blair and Phil Lukens, who worked for Don and bought it from him in 1975. Don p***ed a little over a year ago, the day before his 90th birthday. Well worth checking out! And there will be a special display at this years GNRS - a salute to Blair's.
Blair's is not the operation it used to be but, cool history. Hawaii Speed sounds like a up to date operation.
if we keep going we'll get Blairs history right. Don and his brother started their shop on Arroyo Parkway in 1946. then opened a muffler shop About a block west of the present shop. then got that corner lot and opened in 1955. I lived not far from there and was in that store atleast 4 days a week till I went in the Navy in Feb 1960 I think there are many contenders for the oldest Speed shop. Salem Speed Shop in Salem Oregon has been in the same location with the same owner since 1950. he is only open 3 days a week now and the inventory that he has just blows me away. NOS Manifolds and adapters.
