1965Cuda: At fourteen ,it's great to see you have a great start with a great old car..,but what you've wandered into is a forum dedicated to much older, much more traditional hot-rods..This is a great site to learn from, but theres a protocol that has to be respected... Some on here have no respect nor patience for someone just learning the ropes...Yet there's a vast wealth of knowledge around here... I'd suggest you just lurk around ,listen & watch what goes on , read a ton of old posts, learn to use the SEARCH function, etc... Still ,as a newbie you're gonna be subject to an ass kicking every now & then...So get ready.. Jumping on here with just a few posts ,asking for pics ruffles a few feathers.. Stick around for a while and you'll find out how to operate, don't give up... Good luck with your project... good to see the young folks interested in the car hobby...
Now that just sounds Weird! Guess cause I'm Older than Dirt. I still consider 1965 a newer Car. However if your 14 then you were born in 1999 or close and that makes your Car 34 years Older than you. In my book I guess that works. Still sounds Weird. Good luck to ya Young Man. Sorry I don't know what else to say except glad your not caught up in Front Wheel drive and Boom box crap. Those cars were pretty Bad Ass from the Factory. Just not my thing. The Wizzard
I don't know how hard it is to get a B or an RB engine in the first years of the Barracuda, But in high school that's what I did with my 68. Drive the piss out of that thing and enjoy it. It Really isn't much of a HAMB car though.
Your Barracuda is a way cool car, and I had one for a brief time when I was about your age 30 years ago. It will be a really neat and very simple car to learn to work on, and you will be the only guy at school that has a neat car. Work hard on it and life will be cool. But you have to know that the H.A.M.B. isn't a general car enthusisest type sight. We are pretty focussed around here on cars that are built prior to 1964, and really more focussed on much earlier cars built in the style that they would have been before 1964. Don't take it that I'm telling you to go away and that your car just isn't cool, your just not going to find too many guys around here talking about them because they from a bit different nitch group. There are several Mopar type sights that cater to your type of car. Those will be good places to learn about the things that will fit on it, and what you can do to make faster and handle better. But do hang out on the H.A.M.B. and watch and even ask questions because you will find a wealth of knowledge from some of the best of the best working in shops today. You'll also learn things about stuff like sheet metal repair that you won't over at the specific sights for your car. Don't be afried to ask...
I wish there was the Jolopy Journal when I was a kid. as stated while your car is not completely "HAMB friendly" there is no other site with as much combined knowledge as this place. it's a good place for any old car guy to hang out no matter what they drive.
1965 is right at the cut off on this site but I don't have a problem with it,,Nice to have a young guy interested in the older cars. In '65 they were called Barracuda's. BTW,the day I met my wife she and her cousin were sitting in a copper colored Barracuda. HRP
49ratfink HOTRODPRIMER thanks guys.....I'm on here because of all the knowledge and I want to learn from you older guys who have been there....
Good attitude man! Your doing exactly what I was doing at your age and listening to the "old" guys... The big difference was that "they" were in every neighborhood in the country when I was your age. You might try looking a bit at your area and see if some of those guys are out there and wouldn't mind you hanging out a bit. Keep your mind open and listen around here and you will learn. I am pretty fluant in Mopar, if I can help you in any way let me know.
Hell at 39 years old I recently got my hands on (well to wrench on that is) a 1964 Barracuda. Sweet little car. 260 V8 solid lifter engine, Factory A/C. Boring ass metallic tanish, browinish, beigeish color with a off white interior. Auto trans. Damn that thing sounds mean! Best of luck on your Barracuda endeavors. Don't know what your plans are, but a streetable nod to 60's drag racing would be cool. Think, old school Keystone/Cragar wheels, Not super low, but has a rake. Ladder or some kind of early traction bars... Oh and be OCD protective of that rear glass, gotta be the most expensive piece on the car to replace. The Hemi Under Glass is a little inspiration for you.
Something I learned the hard way with 65 Cuda's:A 273 V8 would not bolt right into a slant 6 car.The "K"member were different Do you know what engine had been in your car?
So 1965 is the cut-off therefore, 1965 vehicles are allowed.... Or am I mistaken??? Pretty sure the boss-man's Rivi is a '65.
1965 - Definitely H.A.M.B. friendly per the rules whether some folks on here like it or not! Try going Gasser...... Or if your skills and wallet are capable..... Or you could just go with something like this.............. Yes some were called CUDA. The bottom line is to just injoy the thing and have fun! Welcome aboard!!!
