  1. I had one of those spark intensifiers on my '56 Belair , ran it for 10yrs before it failed , Then I pulled it apart to see what made it work , it was just a series of foil discs, I guess it worked like a capacitor.

RE:"Wow, Joe, I don't recall offhand Barney Oldfield's name being even remotely linked to any of the "teardrop" cars. THANKS!:)"

Different Barney Oldfield, not the racer.

Basil took on the nickname (Barney), It is believed, because of the connection with his distant relative Barney Oldfield the famous American race car driver. Arlene also received the nickname (Barnie) during her early years for the same reason.

    All the best,

We became *lovers forever, eternally. Big words, I know, but I truly felt,
that no matter what happened we would always be in love.

  16. LOL , as soon as I hit enter, I just KNEW someone would ask that .

The car was mint low miles and carefully tuned and carefully driven, I got a regular 18mpg around town and up to 24mpg at a steady 60mph cruise.

It started better with the device and may have given a mpg or two better with it on.

I laughed at the printed advert.

I bought the device from a couple of hot shot sales guys , out in the shopping car park, they had the hood off a Chrysler V8 and were demonstrating how the car would run bad with some plug leads off , then it would come back to life with the device and run better with MORE plug leads off , a great display , they were really dragging the cash in :)

We were in Grand Prairie at the time and we felt the same way. It was really a test to see if the oil companies could get away with scamming us like that. I had a friend who owned a trash disposal business in Dallas. He said gas was stored all over town including closed service stations, offshore in tankers, etc. They learned they could get away with it in '73 and have been pulling the same scam every few years since then.

Interesting shot of yester year to today. Those gals would in no way be able to get near the edge of the dock like that today. I got my but chewed out for walking towards the aft end of the S.S. Victory Lane docked in San Pedro Ca. this last summer. Said I was in Coast Guard violation. Cuz there was to railing to prevent my from falling into the water.

Yes it happened, in the 70's I had a few friends in the oil business, the gov made it odd an even 5 gal. I had a card lock in OR and they sent me a letter that if I didn't use my old quota They would take my card away. had a mh and we would go down at 2am and fill it and the boat. Only ones on the lake. A total sham.

The above statements about the gas and oil storage is TRUE . I have an Uncle with Chevron oil AND a old Navy friend who both confirm this and they do not know each other and informed me years apart.
