No they are diffrent. There is no "web" on the 235 bellhousing bolts go in the block from inside the bellhousing under the flywheel. A 250 bellhousing bolts up like a th350 or a th400 and so on side mounts are diffrent also
This would be a later vehicle chassis getting an earlier engine and body. Wanting to remove the 250/292 and drop in a 235.
KInd of defeats the purpose of using the chassis to do that for something 90% of the people who see it won't know or care about the difference.
Rusty, this is kind of a special case. I'm just trying to figure out if the engine mounts are close to the same spot and if I can bolt up the newer transmission to the older motor. Check out my other thread if you want more info. Also, great quote from Savage
there are adapter plates to mate the V8 style bellhousing transmissions to the earlier sixes. About $350. The 3 bolt sidemounts on the '58-62 235's are in about the same position front to back as they would be on a 194-250, but the mounts themselves would need to be completely different. you could also get adapter to allow you to use the older style valve cover on the 194-292 six. The 250-292 engines are waaaay better engines...
If you are thinking about pulling the 235 out of your 60 and putting in a 292 it isn't that hard. Not a four hour swap but not a drive you crazy swap either. Pick up a V8 cast iron bellhousing like your other truck has. Those run from 25 to 100 bucks depending on who is selling them. you use the mounts that bolt the bellhousing to the crossmember and the trans should bolt on. There are two different cast iron V8 bellhousings though an you need the one with the hole that matches the bearing retainer on your trans. Then you need to figure out the motor mounts and if you can get all of the pieces out of the truck the 292 came out of to use in the 60 you should be able to make them fit and bolt up without a serious amount of hassle. Some but not enough to drive you nuts . One thing to remember on this board is that we have a few individuals who like to pop off and give info on things they don't know a lot about. As far as swaps go this is a fairly easy swap as you can use a lot of factory pieces from other or later model trucks and make it work.
Thanks Snarl, you wouldn't happen to know the manufacturer of any of those adapters would you? I'm dead set on the 235, folks. Just need to know if I can use a later chassis/tranny combo for the vehicle.

If you are putting a 235 engine in a later chassis using the later transmission, a 55-62 bellhousing on the 235 would bolt it up to the later V8 style transmission.
So you're going from a full flow oil filter motor to an engine with a bypass filter at best that will need the oil changed every 1000 miles or so, that you'll have to carry most of your own spare parts for because while some chains still carry stuff that fits one, it's going to be special order at best. Seems legit, but here again, then why update to a later chassis?
