I suspect my thread ***le has not previously been used! I moved from the UK several years ago. Joined HAMB a little while ago but have only just got my first 'serious' project, a very original steel '30 Model A. Attached a couple of shots to show the as-is situation... Already had 4-5 people call me a philistine for cutting up a car as nice as this. I am approaching this in an old school manner, as many seem to do now. Looking to achieve a highboy with NO billet or 20" rims. My objective is to ensure all major components are pre 1959, we will see how that goes! Adding a three deuce setup (Stromberg 97s) onto a '55 322 nailhead and dropping the axle in the next few weeks. I am a COMPLETE beginner when it comes to building a rod. I owned a nice, basic, steel '29 highboy a few years ago but my business took up all my time and I sold it (regretted it ever since!). Looking forward to learning a lot and hoping to find like minded rodders close to me (Charles Town, WV)...now, where did i put that banjo?! Paul
wow that is a pretty clean little coupe and will make an outstanding rod, good luch with the project. oh and BTW that looks like an awesome shop you have it in, is that at your house?
Chop, section, channel, whatever, just make it your own. Welcome. I too am new around here. In over my head and loving it. I like your choice in a nail head!!!!
Thanks guys, been a little undeer the weather, hence my tardy reply. gilby's, yes I had the workshop put up last fall in readiness for this project (and an MGA for the missus!). 28*38 gves me a ton of room and the lift is a blessing. Will be lifting the body off the ch***is this coming week. Everything disconnected except the steering. Spent the weekend selling unecessary parts on eBay (fenders, engine etc) and will be starting on the frame later in January. Managed to find Buick finned brakes and the three deuce setup so am on the way... Seems like 2013 will be a learning curve! Paul
Greeting's Paul from the west coast of Florida. Nice project and it looks like you have a really nice shop to work in. Must be cold this time of year up in the mountains. Beautiful area to live and best of luck with the project. Best Regards Jimbo
Welcome form another ex pat up in Detroit. Sounds like a great plan for a cool coupe. But might I suggest loosing the MGA - It will eat up ALL your time fixing the Lucas issues Martyn
Hey guys, originally from Surbiton, near Kingston/Chessington in south west London. Normally just say near Wimbledon as most this side of the pond have heard of that but not Surbiton. Martyn, I am hoping the MGA wont **** up too much time (although I spent the afternoon trying to balance the ****** SUs). Electrics holding up so far, touch wood! Jimbo, luckily we are not at high al***ude, only 15 mins from the MD border. Not TOO cold but I do need to get insulation and drywal installed before next winter...!
Posh?! Well, I admit there were some areas that were nice (Berrylands) but believe me, I grew up in a VERY blue collar neighborhood...ahh those were the days.... Chelseas cruise every month, a despairing mother who wondered why her teen son would buy an old rusty '67 pillarless Impala (fifty quid, I kid you not!). Then there was that '71 Grande Mustang with Starsky and Hutch stripes down the side. I am sure that was questionable taste even then. Introduced to rods through a thoroughly decent, recently deceased guy (whose name really was Guy Gubbins) who let me help him build his '32 Deuce, see photo. This was back in the early 80s. http://www.timetraveldvds.co.uk/gallery/BLACKBUSHE AUG '84/target24.html Great memories of some cars back then, GTO Judge in Tolworth, Ford Pops everywhere you looked, AMC Javelin...the list goes on. ahh well, as I said, those were the days.
I remember that car......you may be interested in my old pictures on Flickr....I'm adding to it as I scan them.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/pro_photo/sets/72157625950655855/
Hey, Welcome to the HAMB and nice project man. I'm right up the road in Martinsburg, West Virginia, so if you ever need a hand or wanna catch up on some shows or the drag strip feel free to send me a message!! -Kenny
Thanks for the pictures. I remember most of those cars in Knebworth. I think they are all around 93-98. The picture with Jeff Becks coupe has a model A sedan in front. That was built by a friend of mine and I used it in my wedding.
Small world, 30 years later and 4000 miles away and that one car that we both remember. I attribute my owning what I do now to that car. I hear the Chelsea Cruise is back up and running (to be honest I never knew it had stopped), I am ***uming many Japanese originated cars are present.
