Has anyone used a 74 Jaguar suspension.......I have robbed one out of a freebie XJ12L and trying to find out how good they are.....strength.....handleing..... seat of the pants feel.......any feed back..........thanks........
They work great..... Handle well... easy to work on... easy to install... Jag install into '57 Buick The cool thing about the XJ12 is it has Posi... Make sure you get a bunch of the little stuff... steering joints... the whole rack and pinion ***emble... just get everything you can... any questions...
my buddy squarekat over on the osr board has a jag rear in his A coupe.. it handles great.. but the ratios available arent the best for performance.. I think his rear ratio is a 2.90.. might want to check the ratio before you go further..
biggest part of setting up a jag rear is to either offset the motor towards the p***enger side 1" or to have the crankshaft center line in line with the pinion so the drive shaft u joints only work in 1 direction. stock xjs have 3:30 gears and a posi
The front end of that is a nice self-contained crossmember that unbolts with four large bolts. As long as it is good shape, it would be a great swap into many vehicles. Bolt pattern on the jags is same as Chevy 5 on 4.75
I know that the front end just about bolts straight into a 40 jailbar (very similar to 40 ford) I'm running a jag rear in my A, but if I were to do it all again I wouldn't. Too much of a pain to set up.
I have a Jag front clip in my 51 Chevy pickup so simple to install you wouldnt beleive ive fitted 3 over the last 5-6 years to various fendered Rods i weld mine in along each side of the ch***is {4 welds} they drive so nicely as the castor angle etc is still spot on ,my only problem was obtaining a LHD power rack but i got one after a few years of looking ,hard to get in England......and they sit really low with the wheels buried up in the front arches......... Rear jag IRS units are also really good for a smooth ride but not used much in England as they are dated and were all chromed for shows in the 70's so not many new builds use them unless its slammed and not seen underneath....Still a good unit though, a friend of mine is using both front and rear on his 50 somthing Ford F1.........hope this helps you decide
I moved the pivot points for the right side over 2". That put the pinion in the center. After that I shortened both sides (lower arms and half-shafts) an equal amount to obtain the overall width desired. You can see some of the spacers in the photo.
You got to be kidding me right? It's a Dana 44 center section and there is just about any gear ration imaginable available.
Good to hear more info on the jag setup. Here is an another article on installing a jag in a early 50's chevy truck. http://www.50chevy.com/jag/ (You can zoom in by using the + sign, since the article is small)
I have the mag as its an English publication, well its the only English rodding mag,and its even easier than the artical..
