28/29 Roadster vs. Sport Coupe parts interchangeability questions...

I've abandoned the idea of building the 29' sport coupe I've had for years. I've always wanted a roadster, so better now than later.

    I don't want to build a coupster.

I'll be retaining the 32' frame built for the sport coupe project.

From a little research, it appears I can use the following pieces from my sport coupe on a roadster project:

    cowl / firewall
    gas tank
    subrails
    deck lid

And I'll need to find 28/29 roadster specific:
    cowl posts
    doors
    quarters
    "above deck lid" panel

What am I missing? How about the "below deck lid" panel? I've been keeping an eye out for a decent roadster body for years and haven't seen much... I'm thinking piecing one together may be easier at this point.

    Thoughts? Thanks.

Could be wrong, because I rarely see a actual sports coupe, but I didn't think the hinges was right but I guess you could change them. And the lower panel below the deck lid should work. Soles else smarter will chime In I'm certain

I'd be using roadster cowl posts and roadster cowl doors, should have no issues. I'm not trying to drastically modify any sport coupe parts to work, I'm just looking for confirmation on interchangeability. Thanks...

The panel under the deck lid is taller on the 28/29 roadster than the sport coupe. The subrails are different too but I think you can make them work. I've got a 29 roadster that I put together with 29 coupe subrails and the only modificatioin that I had to make was to accomidate for the roadster door being shorter than the coupe door.
28/29 roadster bodies can be found in the $2500 to $3000 range or you can buy new quarters and doors and round up the rest used.

  5. I understand what your question is but the thing is if you try to modify that coupe into a roadster that's what you'll have. Basicly a car that lost it's value as a coupe or roadster. Yours for life with a hard sell in the end more or less. One day that sport coupe will catch on. This is just my point of view down the line before you pit a ton of money and time especialy in a long term project. But if your motivated....go for it.

Subrails are different bacause of the placement of the door latch post and length of the quarter panels. Also you can use panel below the decklid. Rod

The panel below the decklid on a roadster is 9 1/4" tall and the panel on a coupe or sport coupe is 7 3/4" tall so they don't interchange unless maybe you might like to modify the body to fit above a deuce gas tank on stock 32 rails. I've done that on my 31 roadster and it seems like it would be a lot easier on a 28/29.

I don't want to modify my coupe into a roadster! I'm just asking what parts of it I can keep and throw in the "roadster parts" pile. Sounds like just the tank, cowl sides and the deck lid... maybe not enough to warrant making the coupe incomplete prior to selling it.

    Thanks for the input guys!

    Anyone want to trade?! =)
