There are certain cars that I like either with or without, like a 39-40 Ford, but a shoebox just needs one unless you are running slicks and going for the dragstrip look. Yours is a very nice cruiser custom and needs the hood IMO.

yeah put it back on an fill it with louvers. nice shoe box. if you painted it what would you like to do paint wise?

  4. Mate, that is one nice car, you have obviously put a lot of time and work into it.
But I had to vote for the bonnet(Hey, I'm an Aussy thats what we call hood's!).
Please don't take this the wrong way but a hood less Shoebox kinda says the 'R' word for me, and trust me that is one hell of an insult to your car!!

Or upholster the hell out off it.................:D

    Doc.

  5. Really needs the hood back on, but sure as you do you will jinx yourself and start having to dick with the engine!

BTW, I'm not much for chopped shoeboxes, but yours is as nice as it gets.....Great proportions.

    Devil's advocate here...

Personally, the no-hood look makes me smile...especially as nice as your engine compartment is...and in spite of the fact that it's a custom. Yeah, it's not a "sleek" look, but it's daring and fun and not something you see every day, and it's been done enough to have some historic precedence. I feel that somebody's gotta run 'em hoodless...just to mix it up a little. And I was gonna say that if it's not there, it can't fly off...lol...but you addressed that issue.

But...there's a lot to be said for "continuity of line". Besides, I'm not sure it can be fully appreciated when you're driving down the road...and there'll be plenty of times the hood will be up to show it off.

    You choose.

Just curious...what's been the reaction of others over the past 5 years?

  7. my intention to paint the car is a big part of the hood decision.
i want to fit and finish the hood before i paint the car.
right now i'm thinking a midnight blue, but it's hard to choose.

  8. i've been to alot of shows in the last five years.
i honestly don't remember anyone ever giving me their opinion on the hood. with all the people i've talked to i don't think it's ever come up.

    Hood on.
A certain car catches your eye, you walk over and check it out..looks good, then you start tallking with the owner which eventually leads to lifting the hood..ah, yes the car is a total package (hmm, not unlike a beautiful girl).

    Needs a hood.
There's a few exceptions, but almost anything after 1934 looks better with a hood.
You can lift the hood at shows to show off that nice mill.

I ran with no hood till I found one. It's cool on a hot rod but Kustoms should have hoods!

Seen your cars progression all along and its very cool, I would run the hood. Very niice chop and if I remember correctly it was 5" in front and 7" in the rear and being your first chop? Correct me if I'm wrong. When you look at the side shot you have posted the lines would definitely improve. Worst case scenario you can always take it off if the mood strikes ya.
