I decided to remove the modern stereo from under the seat into a gutted 8 track player under the dash in my 55 Ford, the seat had to come out to remove the stereo and then I noticed the pile of rotten foam under the seat. There are broken springs in the drivers backrest so this weekend I will be on the hunt for a 4 door seat to get the springs out of,I was going to fix the springs and add new foam to the seat and reuse the covers but being 57 years old they need attention so I need to make a decision. I dont want to do the whole interior right now but if I redo the front seat the back wont match,I want to stitch up the seats myself but it would be faster to get covers so I am thinking about installing the extra front seat for now and seeing if I can find some material that matches and redo the seats this winter.

Its just the way we are wired. We are car guys. If we dont like it we jump in and get after it. We get done and dont like how it came out we do it again.

They are always worse than you think. Just ignore it and you will forget about it. unless you are like me then you can't stop till you have fixed everything (ie blow the car apart start over) spend thousands of dollars countless hours and maybe get your car back together in 5years.

  6. 2 yrs. ago I pulled the C4 trans. out of my non-HAMB friendly car for a T5 swap. The "While I'm here" that ensued included pulling the entire interior including the dash and steering column. Installing all new sound deadener and insulation. Rewiring the dash and replacing the ignition. Then, because everything was apart anyway, I replaced the stereo and speakers. HEY! Long as it's this far, right?
The transmission swap did wonders for the interior.

I am glad I picked up a extra front seat so I dont have to rush the repair to the seat and can drive it,after 3 trips to Florida fighting numb legs from the lack of foam in the seat and springs poking me in the back its time to fix it.

Oh man, I've got the mother of snowball projects. I was just going to rebuild the 8ba in my '50 Fordor. In the process of pulling the motor and trans, found a huge mess of rust in the floor that I didn't know was there. Well long story short, I go from this:

    To this:

Body's going to come off the frame once all the rust and old-ass, piss-poor damage repair is done.

  13. Along the same lines, I always wonder why I usually have to take 20 tools out of the toolbox to remove one bolt? Nothing is ever easy.

Tell me about it! I bought an old MGB that I intended to paint flat black and have on the road within a week tops. That was nearly two years ago. It is now a bare shell that is getting a Camaro V6 and T5 powerplant.

Mexican blankets will be covering the temporary seat, the original will be reupholstered. I upholster for a living so its time for a nice seat for me instead of customers.

  21. When I did the motor swap in my '50 Chevy it was supposed to be quick and get it running... eventually the whole front clip came off, I was wire brushing and painting it and seeing more stuff I could do while I was at it.

"This Will Be Easy and Cheap" - HA!!!! my wife has a good laugh every time I buy a good quality part made for my ride that should just bolt on and I end up cutting, grinding, bending, etc to make it fit. sometimes end up buying another part to replace the "new" part.
so, do you have a Y-block in the '55? they are known for not have a proper oiling system for upper end. why you will see copper tubes running across top of motor to valve covers..

Why do projects snowball? I don't know but I live it.

This weekend I went to the local pick a part looking for a battery cable. I came home with a radiator? It don't even look the like a battery cable but I'm thinking that the radiator will go nice in my '51.

Naturally while there I saw an engine that I just have to have. But the barn is full and the new shop isn't done yet.

    Typical.

went from a quick buy and sell to a blown headgasket to a "why not pull the motor and detail the engine compartment while I'm at it" to a bare metal rotissirie deal on an OT 65 Mustang. got it all back together to a point where I could drive it but no paint, glass, interior or door guts got layed off and sold it for $4500.00 with $7500 invested in parts.

we do these things because we are all nucking futs

Legs went numb going to Florida due to not much foam left, springs poking me in the back so its time for some attention. Our suppliers at work have nothing close so it might take some time to get some vinyl that comes close,I dont want to buy covers since it has a factory screw up that I want to retain so I need to get some phone numbers and see if I can get some material.

I don't dare to comment on the 'snowball' part, but i like your re-engineered 8track idea! I'd ask for a tech article but i can see it'll take a couple years before you get to doing what you planned to do!

There is a thread on here about making them and that is where I got the idea, its titled like hidden radios and CDs or something like that.

  30. Because if things didn't snowball they wouldn't be considered projects.
