Just Watched "More American Graffiti"

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 74bowtie, Mar 27, 2012.

  1. Just watched AG II, pretty awful. :)

I realized after a while I had seen it before, but had repressed the memory.

AG I is still one of my most favorite movies... Bought a Merc because of it. :)

I agree that compaired to the the first one it kind of sucked. I was only 5 years old in 62. I actually related more to AG II because I was a few years older and remember all of the anti war hippy stuff, along with the music of that time.

  3. I relate well to both AG and AG-II. I lived and grew up in rural northern CA in the sixties, graduated from hs in '64 and was in VN by '69. I lived through the real changes in car culture and political culture during that time which the movies reflect. Vietnam was a big part of the late sixties and AG-II reflects that. Late sixties more guys were building race only cars as I was, and drag racing was also moving into sponsorship and pushing out the weekend warriors from the competition, and AG-II reflects that.

As a pair of movies, there have never been any others that I can relate to better as a reflection on my life.

  4. I remember well going to the movies to see AG and leaving the theater and having to wade through all the kids in the parking lot standing around my Model A pickup.

It was really cool answering all the questions,my pickup was the only Hot Rod in the parking lot. HRP

  5. To the poster that has not seen AG...what are you doing here?

I have a hard time not liking movies that Michelle Pfeiffer is in. Even the ones I can't watch all the way through, like More American Graffiti.

I thought the second movie was OK. The Drag Race parts with Milner were by far in my opinion, the high points of the film. Really loved it that Steve Evans made it in there. I thought the music was good, and the individual stories were pretty good.

I love American Graffiti, to this day I think it is the most perfect movie ever made. Not just because of the cars, but the story is a perfect time capsule of the end of an era. America in 1962 was still pretty much in the '50's. By 1964 (AGII) we were suddenly in the 60's, the music, the culture, everything changed and not for the better. The cars and music in the first one make it great for me, but the story line could really have been set in almost any era.Growwing up and moving into adulthood. You know Lucas wrote a masterpiece simply by chronicalling his youth growing up in California. I believe he graduated from high school in '62. I have the book (paperback) of AG. The movie is very close to the book with really only one difference. In the book Milner's coupe is powered by a Hemi. That would have really been cool. As far as AGII goes, I didn't like it when I saw it because I love the first one so much, how can you top that? But upon reflection it really is a good movie in that it is realistic, it is just that the subject matter is depressing. I would say it is fairly accurate in it's portrayal of that time period as well. It is just not a "feel good" movie like AG was. I have lost count of the number of times I have watched AG and I never tire of it. I have absolutely no desire to watch AGII agin. It's too damn depressing.JMO.

Michelle Pfeiffer was in Hollywood Knights, not AG. Suzanne Sommers was in AG.

I remember seeing AG in the theater at a very impressionable age. One of my favorite movies. To this day, if I come across it on cable, I will sit and watch. AGII not so much.

At least they didn't make another sequel and then three prequels...

i also saw ag at the show during its 1st run and i thought they nailed it. my area was pretty much like that. the second movie on the bill was "let the good times roll," a r&r revival film with the likes of bo diddley, the crystals, etc. a great double feature! as far as ag2 is concerned, i was caught up in the hippy shit and enjoyed that aspect, but it wasn't that great of a movie.

AGII was a bad movie, but the drag racing scenes at Fremont were worth it, just fast-forwarded the rest...
