I was at Barnes and Noble book store the other day and picked up this magazine. I was really suprised that this magazine chronicled the history of Hot Rodding, cars from the mid 50's - 60's. Lots of really cool pictures of old Hot Rods and pictures of racing from back in the day. This magazine is worth picking up if you get the chance I don't think you will be dissapointed and it captures what this forum is all about.
A lot of history there. Shows a lot of ole timers building cars, racing at tracks that no longer exist. Ed Roth building his own racer. Just a lot of history.
All the people in the photos are skinny or at least normal size. Remember when a huge fat guy was something you didnt see everyday?
When I was a teenager we were poor and ate what we could grow,,,today we got fast food on every corner and I have bulked up a bit.! HRP
I was talking about some of the cool old cars, not the people. On page 15 there is a 29 Ford Roadster with a GMC motor in it with a Harper intake 5 X 2 carb intake really cool. I have found a Harper 5 X 2 intake with Rochester 97's for my 261 Chevy. Going to rebuild the carbs - just got the kits. Cool to see old cars with original parts on them from back in the day.
BTTT, I am ***uming you folks mean this magazine. I have this issue, found it on the bottom of a pile....it will now stay at the top..... A MUST HAVE if you dont already have it! And I totally remember why I bought it....opened it in the store to this page.... closed it wiped the slobber from my mouth, and tossed it into the cart. I think I will start hunting these mags down.
I would be more impressed if Hotrod Deluxe was interested in making history instead of rehashing past history. Seems like they just live off the past. I get bored with it. I wanna see cool stuff that people are building now. Respecting the past is fine but it seems like use it as a crutch to fill content. Maybe it's just me being jaded. It is good for the younger guys to see it though.
Glad to hear even the fat guys liked this. I had no involvement with the special issues, but am still proud of them - mostly David Freiburger's work. If you don't already subscribe, check out the regular bi-monthly news stand issues for more in-depth coverage than the special issues provide. I'm honored and humbled to be a regular contributor, as this was my favorite magazine even before I lucked into the gig! Scotty
I get you, Curbspeed. But for the record, that only pertains to the special issues. There are new builds in every regular issue to offset the historical stuff. And we've found a surprising amount of new info from long ago, too, which helps keep it fresh. Scotty
when your 70 yrs old, ya just get tired of them selling you the same pictures. O yeah, and telling you a '53 chevy is a '54. A '42 Ford Is a '48. So finally ya just get the subscriptions yer Grandkids get ya for yer B-Day. O, If anybody cares, The 09/13 HOT ROD magazine is the only one I've read cover to cover, in 29 years. lotta history, their selling again, but I did enjoy it.
