Dudes! I Got my 29 Phaeton today...!

    Barn Find
OK...There's not that many barns in Hawaii... i found it on Craigslist, in a garage....But I found it!

It has a Hawaii ***le / registration!!
Came with an extra cowl / tank.
It's rusty but not any worse than what i just fixed on my Charger.
    Everything is there!

I'm thinking my 402 Poly Potvin motor will fit right in when I'm done!
Gottsa build a frame for it!

    Aloha Tommy

Ya, But when he gets it done all he can do is drive it aroud in circles. I would feel trapped on an island. I really want a phaeton body. Good luck and excellent find.

I often wonder how people keep from going crazy living on a rock in the middle of the pacific. Cool find though, congrats.

It's good place to be trapped!...Still gotta go to the "coal mine" on weekdays!

Chanelled? the part where the front body mount was is gone.

I was stationed in Hawaii for a month or so. Great state, but the elements must take a harsh toll on rides. Amazing that body is in such a nice semi-complete condition. Good luck with it.

For those that have never been, you've got to be there to understand it. There's no other place like it.

Congrats - Cool find, especially there - imagine you know the guys over at 808 Speed Shop in Kailua. for those that have never visited there, much less lived there, don't be hard on the place until you have experienced it.

Spent two years stationed at Pearl. Had a 61 bird that was so rusty you could look up at the sky through the roof right behind the windshield. Loved every minute living there. But it was expensive off base.

Congrats on the relatively rust free and cool find. Another island gem saved.

WOW.... Gotta love that, and it's not bad at all. Especially to be an Island car. Great find, I love Phaeton's. Just like an old Hawaii Hot Rodder told me one time.... "They were bought new here, and never left".

As far as getting tired of living on a rock in the pacific.... I'll trade my place for one on Oahu, RIGHT NOW...! :D

All kidding aside, Hawaii has one of the lowest standards of living in the entire USA.

  25. Nice find!-Congrats-like you said-not a lot of that stuff on the islands.
As far as the islands go-The folks I met in Hawaii were some of the nicest most laid back people of anywhere I've travelled.

Congrats on your find.....Now just explain .What the hell is a poly potvin motor?

  28. Cool car, and incredibly complete if it really has been there long. I lived there for over 4 years in the seventies. My first car there was a 10 year old Pontiac that cost $100 and you could stand on the ground inside the trunk on either side of the gas tank, or behind either front seat if you took the carpet out! 230 hp 230 cu.in sprint six with a Hurst 3 by the knee. Bad combination for a young sailor.

    Poly Potvin?

I was really jonez'in for an Old ride...and I'm not a big fan of newer stuff...
So using what I got, I started building a Potvin Style 6-71 setup for my 73 Charger with a 340...
(It's like a foot plus longer in front of the radiator than my 'Cuda)
I found a brand new Detroit 6-71 on E-Bay Cheap! a couple of blower
drive covers, and a sprint car water pump, flathead blower drive couplers etc.

Then I was looking for a 340 LA Block to stroke...And I found a 318 Poly that I learned happens to use the same timing cover (and a bunch of other parts) as the 340 LA. + it's much wider and cooler looking!

So the 318 Poly is at the machine shop to be bored 90 over (402) and when it comes back and I get the blower lined up...It may just fit nicely in the Phaeton...? We'll see?

    That's a Potvin Poly!
There's some pics on my profile page!

You sure that car hasn't been channelled ? It looks evenly dropped over the frame and not much space between the rear tires and the fenders....That would be weird since it looks stock otherwise, though. Yet it also would be odd for the whole body to drop that evenly from subrail rust. What the heck?

Great find either way. I would love to find a second one to build with fenders.
