That Post Office is still there, minus the flag poles on the street, but that bank on the other corner of N.Garfield is now 9 stories tall and everything on the South side of Colorado is new. The Photo is looking East on a rare stormyday by the way.
Thanks for the post!

23. So what's happening with the car in left hand lane?

Here's a THEN&NOW. I doubt I'm the only one who enjoys an occasional walk in cemeteries,
the older the better. I never feel creeped out, the way some people say they do. I usually feel
quite peaceful, being surrounded by folks who, mostly, lived long, eventful lives. Many grave-
stones read a bit like books:rolleyes:, describing not only birth and death dates (defining the historical
ERA in which people lived, labored, fought illness or hardship, reared families, etc., etc.). They
also reveal names of spouses, children, sometimes ancestors. Of course, many stones tell proud-
ly of war time service, down to rank attained, campaigns fought, etc. (A favorite of mine, e.g.,
tells of a man who made lieutenant, before dying hundreds of miles from home in the Battle of
Missionary Ridge in Tennessee in late 1863.)

The wonderful photo below:) of Benton B. Shrode and Mary Margaret (Simpson) Shrode is courtesy
of Carolyn Hess and was posted to the internet by A.C. Akins, a descendent of Mary Margaret.
Thanks to their research and effort, we can put faces with what would probably otherwise be
merely NAMES on gravestones.:( These were not aristocrats nor famous politicians, but ordinary
folk. Though they didn't make significant history in the big scheme of their country, you might find
the available details interesting, if you click on the link. (Mary, e.g., was born in Indiana, outlived
three husbands and bore several children, before losing her life in her adopted home of Arkansas
in the awful flu epidemic that swept the world in the closing days of World War I. We car folk
know, of course, that the flu abated but lingered around the world, killing both John and Horace

Officer Frank loved to play "police standoff", but the neighborhood children had grown tired of the game years ago.
