Thanks, I figured it would easier getting to the frame anyway without them. Plus those are easy to take off.

Im also ***uming to take the doors off too? Probably unneeded weight to lift. Floor plan is probably isn't strong enough to support the flexiing without bracing so I'll probably do the bracing too just in case. The roof is filled in so that will help.

Drop the frame. Dont lift anything. Save your back.

This is how I removed the body from the ch***is of my 51 Merc. One man job, but more helpers are always better.

  7. Yes, get the doors off. Bracing does,nt have to be welded. If you can bolt in some flat timber plates here & there you can brace with more timber from plate to plate. Keep the kids & dog out of the way.

I use a jack and blocks, and blocks, and blocks, and blocks, until I can roll the frame out, then let it down to a safe feeling level the same way. Youll always have plenty of offers until the day you need the help, then everyone is busy, so I have always had to do it alone and this is the only way I found.

Couple of a-frames bolted together, an i-beam across the top, some winches and some welded up "fingers" to grab the bottom of the body and away we go. Roll out the frame and back a trailer right under. Whoa - check out the tube socks.

Lifted a lot of bodys by myself with a A frame, com-a-longs,and a cherry picker. later i had a rack which adjusted to a 3 ft height. Every tom **** and harry has borrowed it but i get it back eventually.

Don't ever use cement blocks to hold anything up, they will crumble with no warning. THEY WILL KILL!!!

The 34 looks a whole lot more heavy than it is it's more bulky than anything....

Honestly the easiest is you and two friends, unbolt and clear anything in the way/attaching the two together, pre build a body cradle out of conduit/2x4 or whatever that's sturdy and you have laying around, have two friends show up and 10 min later it's done....any of the ways here will work though, some better than others.....

I have always done em by myself mainly cause I live in the sticks.....

I usually recruit my sons to help since they seem to always be around.

Since they don't do beer I have to buy lunch. Beer would be cheaper!

I used a cherry picker. Took some adjusting to get the balance right, but worked.

Definitely add braces..... A bodyshop friend said he always welds the doors shut,, to further stiffen things, on sedan bodies.

I dropped a 40 Ford tudor body off a bumper jack onto my ba*****t concrete floor back in the 70's, it landed on my left hand and nearly cut off my thumb off. After 47 stiches I learned never to use a bumper jack again. I now have a cherry picker engine hoist, and a 4 legged A-frame. Experience is the best teacher..........BE SAFE..........

That's how i have done it also. A metal saddle at the end of the hoist arm and a 4X4. Works with the doors on also just pad the 4X4and find the balance point.

Good old "American Ingenuity" and whatever you have on hand. I have even used rachet straps on my early 29 and my 26. Great going up. Best have someone to there to get it back down, Very risky move! LOL
Did anyone get farm jacks aka High Lift Jacks on here yet?
