I just purchased a 54 Super and it is in need of a rear bumper. Im planning on doing a mild custom. I like the looks of the 55 and 56 bumpers and think they actually go better with the front 54 bumper. Is there a fitment difference between the 40, 60 and the 50, 70 series? And it looks as if the basic shape and attachment points of the 55/56 are the same as the 54. I like the 56 with the exhaust cut outs and license plate on the bottom side of the 56 too. While I am at it, how about trunk lids and doors too? What'll work, won't won't. Thanks all. Heres some sample rear bumpers I pulled from the intraweb.
Super and Roadmaster have one bumper, Special and Century have another and the width is way different. Trunk lids are the same way in that the small series is different than the large series. I know you can put a '55 bumper on a '56 and vice versa if they're the same series car, but not sure about '54. '56's have a little bolted on pan at each end under the tail lights as a filler panel (both my '56 Specials had it) If you were attempting to put a '56 bumper on an earlier car, I think you'd want those pans as well. Also, not all '56 rear bumpers had the exhaust cutout. My '56 Special doesn't but i had a bumper from a '56 Century that did. Not sure about Super/Roadmaster in that respect.
Thanks guys. Marty, Id be ready to take that bumper off your hands except the shipping would probably kill me. I did find a Roadmaster 56 rear, but I am afraid that deadend is probably right.
