i am looking for the article that appeared in a post with the proper way to build an old school 301. This was a a copy of an article that had part numbers and build specs. I cant seem to find the post no matter how much i search. Does anybody have a copy of the article or know which post it was in. Thanks Scott

I've used the search function and have come up with numerous links to 283-301-327 builds but not the article that i'm looking for. Can anyone help. Thanks Scott

    A 301 is not the same as a 302!
    A 301 is a 0.120" overbored 283. The new bore diameter is 3.995".
    The 302 started with a 4.000 bore 327 block using a 283 (3" stroke) crank.
Several aftermarket companies sold "jobber" 0.120" oversized pistons back in the day (late '50s into the '60s) for the 283 made into a 301. Good luck finding a set in 2013!
A 302 is a little easier. Find a 327 small journal block and a forged 283 crank in good rebuildable condition. Block will need a cleanup bore and hone but will still be considered a 302. Or there might still be a few large journal 3" stroke Cola cranks out there that would fit a low mileage 350 block.
If Ford built millions of 302s, why don't we see more SBC 302s in our rods? Have we become inebriated with "stroker" engines?

3in. cranks are available from Eagle and I'm sure other aftermarket sources. Guys I knew back when tended to make 292s out of 283s to preserve the possibility of another bore job. I'd use a large journal 350/327 block and aftermarket 3 in. crank.

Hot Rod magazine in the 60s had a great article building a 301. They tried different intakes and cams, and had the dyno results.
