    Correct, it is a 56, not a 55.
The car was owned by Universal Studios and was used in a few movies over the years from what I was told. It was just sitting on the street or in a parking lot type of thing. The story goes that it was originally bought for an upcoming starlet by an executive, but it turned out she wasn't quite the star and was more of a party girl so they took it back. It went into the "pool" of cars at that point for use as an extra in movies, executives could drive it and it was even "loaned" to other studios. In 1968 it was stolen from the garage, but recovered the next day with the keys in it, they suspected a "lot boy" who didn't come back to work. In 1986 they auctioned off a bunch of cars. This one got a quickly respray in Black lacquer (original black car) and was bought by the guy that i got it from. He drove it daily until he was in his 80's and called a friend and said sell this for me before I wreck it! That's how I got it about 8 years ago. It just turned 100,000 miles recently and the 312 has never had the heads off. I had to rebuild the trans when I got it. I took the continental kit off and swapped a front bumper to the rear and ****ed it in tight to the body while also removing the front bumper guards, ala Doanne Spencer. It also has Slat Flats and no skirts. All those parts are safely tucked away in storage in case some one wants to put it back to stock in the future.
This is what it looks like now

    Hey,

The '36 Ford Gable is leaning into was built by Jensen Motors L.t.d. of England. Gable put down a thousand dollar deposit on the Jensen built Ford, but just days after the car was delivered to him returned it asking for his deposit back. He then turned around and bought a Duesenberg roadster. Gable did do a few photo opps with the car however.

  13. Thanks for all the responses, Nice thread!

  14. FYI, Clark Gable's '55 Mercedes Gullwing just sold at Barrett-Jackson for $1.85M.
