May be O/T again but thats what folks come to expect from me. These are photos that Customcory took in the 70's at Bristol Dragway, Bristol TN. Our dad took me and my bro cory thru the pits and also let us rumage the parking lot. Thats my dad in those Dragnet sunglasses and me standing at the HD sportster. My bro customcory and myself are posing beside the vette on the trailer. Give cory credit for pictures. Thanks dad for taking us to shit like this early on.
I don't mind. I remember the guys on the choppers didn't like us hanging around taking pics of the bikes! Linda Vaughn was there, Tommy Ivo , Don Garlits, good times.Of course you forgot this pic of the 61 Impala that looked like a refugee of R&C's highboy of the month... I use to like the fights in the stands, and we still got a chunk of Hemi engine block that hit the drunks behind us and knocked the one guy out for a little bit when a engine blew in front of us. Still got that chunk! I remember asking our dad if we were related to Linda Vaughn in some way!
I love Bristol . I work about 2 miles from the track Thats where I got my first taste of drag racing. Thanks for posting this
One of my favorite tracks, some of the best fans in the country , Here's one from when I worked for Dave Miller at Bristol, Tim Jones
That was a great track back then..before Bruton got hold of it and bulldozed & changed everything.. Somewhere in my archives, I have some 8mm films of the '67 Springnats . I was there "crewing" on an I/Stock '59 biscayne... there's lots of footage of tech when it was over on the 1/2 mile oval...One of these days ,I'll run across them..
I've never been there but the sound of the cars echoing through the mountains is supposed to be awesome. My best friend was there about this time but the Budweiser may have affected his memory.
Thanks for the pics. I was there when they first opened that strip, was with a friend who ran a BB/A wished I would of took pics back then.
I used to flat tow my 67 Caprice K/SA to IHRA points meets at Bristol. Quite the track, and very hospitable.
Great pic of Gene Snows old flopper,,,,,Rambunctious. Snow was a great fuel racer ! Back around 98 or 99,,,he made a cool commercial for Mopar. He was sitting in his Top fuel dragster at the starting line,,the car was painted red and only had one word on it. "Dodge" was painted on the side in big white letters,,the fuel pump was on high,,it was pumping raw fuel out the zoomies, and he hit the throttle and was gone. Coolest commercial I ever saw ! Tommy
