I was driving the back roads today minding my own business and stumbled upon a couple of trucks for sale. One is a Chevy.....looks to be late 20s-early 30s to me. The other one is a GMC beast with a huge pto driven winch. It looks to be 53-54 to me. Any experts out there? I'm waiting for the pics to upload....will edit with more pics as they are done.
The first one is a 1929-30 Chevy. Here's some pics to compare. It's hard to confirm without the panel below the rad shell.
unfortunately no.....there wasn't anyone around to talk to. The GMC had a price on it of 3250...but the old chevy didn't have anything. I was going to make an offer for both but nobody was at the office. How hard is it to find the missing pieces on the 30-31? I've never had one that old but it looks like someone was trying to get it to run. It has some new pieces on the motor.
Have them knock about $2K off the price of the GMC and they'd be a lot closer to reality, ***uming is at least running. The older one is missing a lot and is rough obviously, maybe another $3-500 for that one depending if you can use it for decent parts and if not whatever is close to it in s**** value.
If thats what they sell for in your area I need to come over there and stock up. The GMC still runs and drives....just needs new tires. They are rotted pretty bad. Original price on the GMC was $4500 and it was reduced to 3250. A little high compared to what I've seen before...but I would go 2500. The other is a 29 Chevy International LQ series 1-1/2 ton according to some pics I found this morning. I'm sure its worth more than 500.....so far I haven't found any rust holes on it and thats a miracle for this part of Texas.
That GMC might be worth the asking price if you could put it in the field and work it hauling a crop out of the field but for a crusty one sitting where it appears that it has sat for several years I don't see that kind of money. There are several of them around here that are still in pretty good shape and haul loads of fruit, produce or grain off the farms every season but I doubt that the owners think they are worth that much. They use them because they can't see putting out 50K for a truck they only use two months a year.
Usually around here the bigger trucks do not bring the money a 1/2 does unless its mint and then they are harder to find a buyer for.
Correct..... Just got back from looking at both trucks again. I got lucky and both owners of these trucks were there. The Chevy is an early 30 according to him. He says it is a mix of 29-30 parts. He has the hood, radiator and the headlights for it but is missing the winshield frame, rear fenders and radiator shell/shroud. It does run but they had trouble getting it to run right. He put it out there to sell it, but now he is having second thoughts, Now he is thinking he might put a later ch***is under it and sell the original one but he is undecided. I told him I would be interested in the whole thing and he took my number and said he would give me first shot at it if he decides to sell. The GMC is a 53 2.5 ton ex USAF truck. It runs but the brakes need work.Looks like they are air over hydraulic. He does have the ***le to it. I offered 2500 and he said he would do that and he would load it on a trailer and deliver it since the brakes aren't working. I asked him why the gin poles were cut off...he said they were attached until his buddy took it for a spin around the building and the winch popped into gear and tore them off. So we know the winch works.
